WTB - X5 M or X5 50i M Sport w/ 3rd row

Hello -

I'm looking to buy a used E70 X5.

I'd really like an X5 M but the practical side of me realizes that a 3rd row would be nice as our family grows.

Looking for low mileage, well taken care of, no particular color combo.. I'm located in Frederick, MD and of course it would be nice to have the vehicle nearby but I am willing to ship it across the country.

I've been talking to a few local dealerships but none really seem to want to budge on the price even though they are well over NADA and KBB.

Another interesting thing that I read was that CPO Warranties are now non-transferable after Jan 1, 2014.

I'm also considering a Cayenne GTS. The GTS seems much better for towing (7700 lbs over 6600 lbs). I would like to turn one of my cars into a full-blown track car and would like to tow once a month or so. I know there are tons of reviews out there on X5 M vs Cayenne GTS; lots of opinions

Rough budget is 50-60k depending on the vehicle.

On the CPO : it is transferable to the buyer in a private party transaction AFAIK. Good luck with your search. For your budget, you should able to find one soon.

With your budget you can get the best E70 non-M out there - I would get a 2012 or 2013, then you'll get the OEM LED coronas.

We have 3rd row and it's great for kids and their friends - our girls love sitting back there. It's not really suited for adults, and we knew that when searching, but for kids and their friends, it's perfect. A must have if you had kids IMO.

Don't know much about the Cayenne's….

I always have to drop this note in about the 3rd row. Just an FYI, the 3rd row seats in the E70 are inside the rear crumple zone. So, God forbid anything bad should happen, I wouldn't want anyone sitting back there.

Personally, I could never feel 100% comfortable with having someone sitting back there. Aside from that, as jiggz stated, your budget will allow the best possible non-M E70 out there. Granted, do you need to spend that kind of money? No, but you should be able to get anything you want for that price. I paid within that range for my M as well, so you can definitely get into an M if you want. Just plan to hit the gas station AT LEAST every week for about $75 or so. Its all worth it though.

Hey Jon, I'm curious where you read/heard this information? I've never come across this in all I've read on these vehicles. It would seem to me if passengers were allowed to sit back there, the vehicle would have to pass rigorous safety/crash testing. Obviously it's not as safe as sitting in the regular back seat if one were to take a severe rear-end impact, but I don't think it's unsafe to sit back there

My client advisor informed me of this when we were looking at our first SUV back in 2012. We ended up going with the X3 at the time because we didn't need the X5... or so we thought.

Hmm, was hoping for a link/crash test results. I don't believe most dealership employees and their vehicle knowledge. I'm bringing my 3 series to the dealer this week and I'm gonna ask them about this. Will ask more than 1 person too.

Good call, I'll look into it as well. Heading to my dealer this morning for some small interior bits. Gotta love the E70 interior quality!!
