Brembo makes OEM BMW calipers!
I remember reading in another thread awhile ago that Brembo actually made OEM BMW Calipers but I couldn't confirm it via google search. So armed with a camera, I decided to poke around the back of the caliper and lo and behold, Brembo is stamped on the back of the front caliper.
I thought I could contribute to the online world who are searching "Are BMW X5M caliper made by Brembo?".....Yes.....yes they are. I wonder why BMW decided to leave Brembo logo off the front of the caliper? Seems like a good selling point to me. Here are the pics to prove: Back of caliper: Front of caliper: |

Does anybody know if they make aftermarket performance rotors for this size? I'm looking for some cross drilled rotors. The only thing I can find on google search are complete Brembo Brake Kit upgrades....

I was wondering about the same thing. I wonder why they didn't go with cross drilled from the beginning, everyone else in this performance level is.

I couldn't agree more. There are a slotted and cross drilled from a seller on Amazon for about $600. Im a little weary about buying them on there as it might be a generic picture and a generic brand. No other specs besides 10-11 BMW X5(M). I'll try and contact the vendor.

For as much track experience I've had and seen, I can assure you cross drilled will withstand whatever any wannabe street racers can manage to put through. At the worst possible scenario I've seen cracks will form from hole to hole and once they connect it's time to replace the rotor. But that's after many cycle through 160 mph to 30 braking lap after lap.
Cayenne have cross drilled (actually they are cast) rotors standard. I think BMW just went cheap, that's all. Or they figure the targeted consumers group probably don't know the difference. I personally prefer slotted, but cross drilled works for me too. The reason is simple when you really drive your car hard gas will form between the rotor and the brake pad. Which will drastically reduce braking power, having either slotted rotor and drilled rotor will prevent this. Obviously BMW done their research and realized the 99.9% of the owners will just be stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and there is no need to spend the extra money. |
