BMW X5 35D M packet 286hp 2008
Hi guys! Im thinking of putting an ECU tune on my X5. It has been driven about 115k miles (186k km). The tune would give it hundred more horsepower so it would be 380hp and then about 800nM torq.
My only concern is will the engine parts and drivetrain etc handle the extra power? Does anyone of you here have experience, or advice to give? Thanks alot in advance, I appreciate it! |

It's a diesel! HURRAY! I've got a stage 2, fully deleted diesel X5, I can shed some light. Oh, and I have 220k miles on my car too, as of today!
If you're putting that aggressive of a tune on, you really need to take out ALL the emissions crap. The EGR, SCR, and the DPF. You can honeslty get away with keeping everything, but the DPF is going to really limit what gains you see. Not sure what If you hop over to the M57/N57 section of this forum, which is inside the e90 chassis 3 series section, you will find unlimited information- Start by reading the "alphabet soup" post, to learn about the emissions systems. Figure out what your country needs or cares about in terms of emissions. (Finland, I see- Hello from the USA!) A stage 2 spec tune can be perfectly safe with a good tune. You could inquire whether JR tuning, Malone, or DUDMD would help you out with a remote tune, being that you're so far from the USA. My x5 is basically maxed out on it's stock turbos. It' should be about right where your tune would put you. Again, make sure it's a good tuner you're working with, as some tuners might turn off the engine codes by disabling the computer's ability to sense anything, and therefore the engine light wouldn't come on, and you wouldn't go into limp mode if anything bad DID happen. This would be bad, and you would like to avoid that situation. I want to emphasize, that with a good tune, this level of power is COMPLETELY RELIABLE as long as you're taking relatively good care, and doing maintenance on time. All together, my tune, delete hardware (exhaust pipes from the downpipe to the stock muffler) and EGR delete hardware, cost me $2000 USD including installation. And it completely transformed my X5 into a completely new beast. |

It's a diesel, the stage 2 level of tune is VERY common and with a legitimate tuner, very safe. Arguably more reliable than stock, because most of us with stage 2 tunes have all the emissions crap ripped out.
