Are there any good tire options besides OEM?
Need new front/rear tires soon.
20" 275/40R20 Front, 315/35R20 Rear Should I go with the OEM Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport RFT or are there other options? I do have the spare tire. |

If you have the spare, then look at what else is available in that size. You'll get a better ride with just about anything other than the RFT. On another note..
what size is your spare tire/wheel? I've been considering picking one up if I go on a longer out of state trip.

I am not sure the spare size, I will have to go look. It is just the OEM spare addon. |

I have a nearly new staggered set of Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta UHP summer tires I may be selling separately. Only a couple thousand miles on them in the fall before I put the winter tires on. PM me if interested.
Awesome tires, great ride comfort, incredible rain performance, really unique eye catching tread pattern. Only reason I am selling is I am going to 22's for the summer. You can see them in my sale thread for 299M wheels.

Same question for me. I have the emergency spare and BMW 21" on X6M. Like to improve ride and tire mileage. I don't race on track or push to edge in corners...just some straight line speed.

Many members here have switched to the Continental Extreme Contact DWS with great results. They are currently less than $1000 for the set at Tire Rack. They also have the high end Conti Sport Contact 5 SSR which is a RFT for around 2k. These are the 20's, I'm not familiar with 21's.
I run Contis on my M3 and have been very happy with them.

Going for the Conti DWS. Just called BMW and they won't change the tires if I don't buy from them. So I guess I will have to go to a shop.
How does the TPMS work? Do I need to purchase something extra for that or can they just use the original parts? |

I vote for Vreds they are great tires, summer performance only though. You can swap out the TPMS. Make sure the shop has the right equipment to do the job and won't scratch up the rims. The runflats can be a bitch to get off. Also, ask if they do road force balancing, it's not a requirement but IMO better balance under load.

From everything I've read...
+2 on the
Continental Extreme Contact DWS I'm probably going to put them on my 650xi GC - even without a spare!

Just saying, the best mod I did ever on a car was to get rid of the Dueler rft tires on my X5.
The road noise, comfort and grip was terrible with them. After reading a lot of reviews, I bought the new Falken FK 453 and love them so far. Like a complete different car! The FK 452 had some not so great reviews but the new 453 is just great for a mid priced tire. |

I was in the exact situation as you. I also had no interest going with the same OEM runflats. I bought a set of all season TOYO Proxes S/T II. They should be arriving soon, will give you a review once they're here.

All season are bad in winter and summer. Road noise, bad grip and the live time should be shorter too. I might will learn something but so far I get a smile in my face when I see all season tires in Florida. (Actually very often, 'Murcia) |

I went from the Conti DWS tires to a set of Nitto Motivos yesterday (cost was $1150)
All of the research I did wasn't enough to spend the additional $900 on the Pirellis and, while I was perfectly happy with the DWS tires, the ratings on the Motivos were better. I just hated the run flats that the car came with... loud, expensive and died after 14,000 miles. Never again. These tires seem to be very sticky. I like them. Jim |

Not be able to drive my car the few days a year that there's not-so-good weather conditions where I should be able to drive my 4WD car (my only car). -or- Have to change my tires out at a moments notice because it was 70 degrees yesterday and snowing/sleeting/(whatever) today. Central Texas is truly all season in the winter. Deciduous trees and flowers may not look like it, but the weather certainly does. (For instance, last December ran a high of 85 to a low of 27, January 80->22 with rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow, hail, and sunburn mixed in there). The crossover point for all-season tires to winter tire effectiveness is 41 degrees Fahrenheit. So what would you do given central Texas conditions? Change out for day and night? Even/Odd days? |

I ran a dedicated summer/winter setup on my M3, but maintaining 2 sets of wheels/tires was a total PITA and with Denver's 'winter' there are really 0 days you need snow tires with an X5. All seasons make a lot of sense for a large portion of the country, so it's not really a matter of being cheap.

The Nokian WGR2/3 is a great all season tire that you can use year round without worry. However, if you want the max performance tire for the summer, then a set of summer tires and some all season's will often perform better than dedicated snow tires. I just don't think many people use/need a summer tire however (crazy BMW drivers excluded )

So I got the TOYO Proxes ST II, same size as the stock bridgestones for front and back. First impression: All smiles, made the biggest different, felt like a new car. I had a huge grin driving it again. Stay with me hear: everything is going great, then I notice that the rear doesn't look as wide as the stock tires. How could that be? they're both 315's! But it just doesn't look as wide! So now I'm reading that some 315's are wider than others, some 295's are even wider than 315's....Ok, then i turn the front wheels and i hear something making contact inside the wheel well. Weird. Something isn't right. I'm taking it back in tomorrow. Any thoughts? I'm very disappointed.
