Best X5 Model Year To Buy Used
I currently drives a 2007 Chevy Tahoe and a 2013 BMW M3. Both I love for what they are great at doing. My Tahoe is my DD, kids, hobbies, Home Depot, etc. My M3 is the weekend toy.
I'm looking to buy a used X5 to soften the weekly driving adjustments of going from a M3 on the weekends to the Tahoe during the week days. Lately, I find myself driving too fast in my Tahoe and too slow in My M3. Additionally, it would be not to re-learn the differences in manufacturers radio, transmission, nav, windows, door locks keys etc. I know, poor me. Thanks. |

2013. Plenty of warranty left (timewise), all kinks and glitches worked out (to some extent, it being a BMW some things never get fixed).

the best one would be the most recent you can work into your budget. Other than that, I'd say they've pretty much worked out all the common kinks by '11 model year. Stay away from the 1st release '07 if you can help it.

Anything CPO that is model year 2011 of newer. You get the most recent update of the bodystyle and the peace of mind of a 100K miles warranty. I bought a CPO 2011 M Sport and am still under factory warranty and then CPO until October of 2016.

I had an '07 in '07 and had it for 50,000 miles in 2 1/2 years with no issues. But I would agree with rh71, as new as you can afford. Personally, I'm looking to replace my wife's '11 X3 now and will either grab a new '13 E70 X5 while the deals are good, or get a CPO '11, possibly wait for a '14.
If I were to go CPO, I would definitely go '11 or newer to catch the LCI, so it's at least a little different than the '07 I had, and so it's that much closer to current styling... But again, whatever you can afford. I wouldn't shy away from an '07 - '10 if that's what your budget requires. |

Considering the prices of a 2011-2013 CPO X5, I may have to go with an older model year 2009-2010. My OCD starts to kick in when the prices of used starts to look like the costs of new like the soon to be out X4. Not the same trunk space but good economy at $46K plus versus a used 2011-2013 CPO X5.

If you are looking at a 2009 or 2010, the 2010 will come with the new navigation. Steer away from the 30i model as they are dreadfully slow. So your option would be a 2009 or 2010 (CPO) with the xDrive48i. Here is an example:

I just sold a 4.8 550i msport, it was a pig especially in normal drive mode. 18-20mpg on the commute. I can imagine how annoying it would be in the x5. That v8 doesn't get up and go like a Tahoe would.
I opted for the diesel it just drove and accelerated better. Still have a tune for more boost.

If you can find a 2009 X5 with the M sport package ($35K) your problems will be solved. Body colored panels, adaptive/adjustable suspension, 3rd row seating when neaded and best of all wider wheel arches.

I am new here and thinking of buying an 07 X5 4.8, sports, tech and entertainment package. Just have a few questions, what should I look for? It comes with a 2 year third party bumper to bumper warranty because its from a used car dealer. Any serious flaws on this 07 year 4.8 model? Can't wait to own this beast
