Horrible Mess

Hi guys so I have an E70 X5 35i. the car is a 2011 model and has 34.5k miles on it. The car has a front driveshaft recall and it hasn't been completed yet. But, when I was driving home today I noticed when I accelerate above 45MPH the steering wheel shakes and I hear noises and it shakes on the back. I feel like if I go any faster entire back is going to fall off. Any idea what could cause this?

I'm not a Doctor...but those sound like symptoms of a failing drive shaft to me...

Guess what? My rear left tire was about to fall off! It wasn't torqued down to spec. Spent $1,500 on Continentals but Discount tire didn't know what the spec was!

Drove it to my buddies house. Put it on the lift to double check what was wrong and he was like are you sure the rims are torqued down? I'm like yeah. He wiggles them driver rear side and that falls off. BINGO,we found the issue! I'm going to have some issue with discount tire.

Glad you figured it out! Front axle is easy to tell but I guess the rear can feel like something else. I've had this happen on my Tacoma when servicing at the dealer. Was a faulty impact wrench...or that's what they said anyway.

Car is going to the dealer on Friday early morning since I need the car for a road trip Saturday and I'm not taking a crappy 320/X1. I'm getting the driveshaft recall done.

Oh, on my X5. I went to my friend's house (Not a decent area) she has cameras in her property. WHile checking the footage a "Black male" approached my car with a wrench and was trying to open the driver rear wheel but couldn't due to wheel locks. I am very lucky that, that wheel didn't fall off while going 85MPH+ on the freeway.

I've had similar issue before. Potential thief left the lugs on the ground when he realizes I had a lock.

So it wasn't the tire shop?? Cuz I DID almost get tossed off a mountain due to one that left ALL my wheels loose once. That will never happen to me again.

NEVER trust ANY tire shop. If I'm planning on having work done I take a torque wrench with me. I hand them an anti-marring socket to begin with... After the work I pull into the next immediate gas station, check tire pressure and lug torque on all 4 corners. I've had under-inflated and loose lugs on many occasions. Too many people out there overworked and don't give a sh!t !

Absolutely. That's why I'm suing Jiffy Lube next week. Hell no-not for servicing my X5, but for my wife's Honda Civic. Of course, I should have known better than to go to that sewer, but I was in a tight spot.

Even I know better than that for a Euro car, but it actually applies to all cars.

shoot I had an oil change done at a similiar place to jiffy lube in a e34 535 years ago and they used the wrong oil filter, It blew off the car a few bloks from my house.... yea..
And speaking of lug nuts at a home depot parking lot, jumped into hd to pik up some Bx wires for a room i was renovating noticed later all the wheel bolts were loose, pretty sure someone tried to steal the wheels but i came out of the store quick.
