Anyone recognize this exhaust? (X5 M)

Hi Everyone,

Took delivery of my 12' X5 M today, which was purchased from Rusnak BMW in California and shipped to Chicago. Anyhow, I was pleasantly surprised to see it already had an aftermarket exhaust installed when the shipping truck pulled up, but it didn't look like any of the common ones I have seen. Does anyone recognize this or is it a custom setup? Still has the vacuum actuated valves as well. Previous owner a member?

Looks like a custom exhaust by GINTANI - http://cartreats.biz/index.php?route...roduct_id=1236

But this one is black, and Gintani original is a beautiful 304 stainless steel ...

Wow, $2K+ for an exhaust ... outrageous IMO.

Completely agree! I can't believe what some of these manufacturers charge for a few short sections of stainless/mufflers/tips... I used to have a 10 sec evo and a full turbo back would cost around $1200.

OP: congrats on the new X5M! Beautiful in Alpine White.

I've always told everyone that I'd love to buy an expensive car one day (like a Ferrari, or a Lamborghini) only to put on a cheap, Flowmaster exhaust to show all the idiots spending $10K on an exhaust system how stupid it really is.

Thank you! Of course today it decided to snow

Fortunately, I still have my old car available for the rest of the week. My buddy is a master BMW tech, so I'm going to have him give it a good look over to make sure everything checks out while it is still under warranty.

Regarding the exhaust, if it didn't already have this one on there I would have done the Megan exhaust for ~500 bux. I'm not a brand whore and if it looks good/sounds good I don't care what name is on the tips

Shouldn't you have done that BEFORE you bought it? What would you do if you found something ... that's not warranty related?

Or did you do a PPI? If you did, what did the PPI consist of?

BTW, it appears that the S63 engine fuel injectors are failing the same way the N63 injectors are ... except that the the S63 engine is not subject to any sort of campaign (yet). The word on the street is that BMW is addressing it on an individual basis ...

I wonder about some of the other "common" parts between the two engines.

I wasn't about to fly my friend to California to look over a car that I was interested in buying... I did my homework and bought a low mileage 1 owner car that was fully maintained and still under warranty from a reputable BMW dealer. He's able to see all maintenance performed at the dealership and any oddities, of which, none existed. This isn't my first rodeo and I was simply stating it's nice to have someone on the inside that knows these cars inside out. I'm fully aware of the N63 campaign and similar parts failures on the S63

This looks like it's yours, right? I think the owner of Gintani (I had never heard of that company) was the previous owner of your X5M:

Thanks for doing some digging, I wondered the same thing myself after seeing a similar vehicle in the link above showing the Rusnak dealer plates and this exhaust.

Here's what I've found out so far via some Googling:
1. When setting up the NAV the previous owner left their "Home" address programmed, which I looked up. It turned out to be a residence in Malibu that was originally owned by the country singer Glenn Campbell and was subsequently sold to what I would assume to be the previous X5 M owner. The previous owner's name didn't seem to match up to the owner of Gintani or any of the Gintani forum screen names on here. Based on my searching I think he's an attorney, unless he has a younger son that owned this car??

2. I sent "Sales@Gintani" a PM to see if anyone over there owned this vehicle. I may give them a call if I don't hear back. It may just be a coincidence, but I would like to confirm just to be sure, especially if the truck is/was tuned.
