New 535i GT looks a lot like X6

The new 535i GT looks a lot like the X6 especially from the back, just lowered.
I really like the dual mode hatch.

Interesting car. Kind of a blend between the 6 series coupe and the 5 series touring with lots of parts from the X6 (exterior) and 7 series (interior).

They also seem to show the 20" rim (i think it's style 253) on the 550i GT that are standard on the 750 (Canadian) sport package.

Take the 574 mm from the ground up to the seat and compare to the x6. 574 mm is 22.6". The top of the x6 is 66.5" up from the ground, then 38.3" down to the seat, making the seat 28.2" up from the ground. You'll sit about 6" lower in this car!

Wow, 6" is a LOT!

Should help the cornering ability of this car, especially if they put the DPC system into this car and have the 4.4l TTV8 to go with it.

I would assume that it will also come with the new 8 gear gearbox

That's pretty cool.

I especially like the overlay they did showing the profile of the x6 and the regular 5 series.

I wonder why they're not putting the twin turbo from the x6 in it? Do you think the engine is too tall for the engine bay in keeping with the lower hood line?

It's interesting that it has a lot more chrome in the interior. I'd be interesting to see if that's a new direction for BMW and a departure from the Bangle design mode.

I'm pretty sure that the 550 GT will have the 4.4l TTV8 (same engine as in the X6 xDrive50i)!

That's certainly good news! I think what threw me was the article:

The 535i GT features BMW's new TwinPower Turbo with High Precision Injection and VALVETRONIC technology, a single turbo with twin-scrolls that puts the squeeze on the 3.0 liter straight-six gasoline engine, internally referred to as the N55 over at BMW.

This engine, as opposed to the twin turbochargers of the N54 version, is a first for BMW, coupling that single twin-scroll turbo with High Precision Injection and the variable valve management of the VALVETRONIC system. The 4.4 liter V8 that goes into the 550i GT still gets a twin-turbo but that 4.4 liter may be getting this new tech-upgrading for the upcoming X5M/X6M versions.

They should have put the 5 series GT's sunroof into the X6!

I don't think and as far as I know, that the GT comes with the DPC system as it is a rear wheel drive only.

Interior space is definitely the GT's plus. Also the rear entertainment system is far nicer than that offered as a standard on the X5/6 models.

Agree, I think the GT's (including new 3 series GT) will be aimed at a particular segment that may want a higher level of appointments then those that come with standard version.

Definitely not M class, M class is aggressive in styling and performance this is more subdued.

Funny you say that (considering that you own a X6) since (at least in my opinion), the back and the silhouette of the GT looks more like a X6 than any other BMW car!

As per dmlgc in the title of this thread:

New 535i GT looks a lot like X6...

The new 5 series GT is sort of a lowered, stretched and refined version of the X6 less the all wheel drive and DPC system, however it does sport the new 7 series Integral Active Steering.

The back doesn't look quite like X6.. Doh, as if the straight back view of X6 is some kind of Aston Martin DB9. But don't mind. . .
