More spy photos X6 hybrid

Well I am glad to see that the production model will not have the ridiculously huge bump in the hood that was in some spy shots, this looks ok. I am sad to see that BMW is still keeping the stupid running boards, my wife hates them and whenever there is a discussion (usually in a parking lot when we are out) she always brings them up.

Hard to tell about the engine the exhaust looks smaller than what's on my 50i, could be pic. looks like it will be out late 2009 or 2010.

Actually the bump in the hood is still there. It is just slightly disguised by the horizontal black line

Shenard,
I was referring to the earlier photos like these:

This hump doesn't seem as big to me.

Same TTV8 as in the 50i.Seems the exhaust note has been tuned down somewhat compared to the 50i X6.I guess in keeping w/ the "Green" push.Still surreal to hear the Hybrid X6 pull away from a traffic light in complete silence when under all electric power. Thanks! PalBay

Any sense of how it performs from a standing stop?
Yes I know it's suppose to be green but at these prices it has to have performance too.

Article quote: While BMW has yet to announce when the hybrid version of the X6 will hit the market, sources say it could be as soon as mid-2009 as a 2010 model.

Hmmm, aren't we kinda already in the middle of 2009 ?

so it basically has the same engine only added to it is an electrical engine ?

doesn't that add to the massive weight of the car ??

It does. But at the same time, electric motors have a LOT more torque than gasoline engines. I wouldn't be surprised if the electric motor they put into the X6 has somewhere between 700 to 1000ft-lb of torque!

And it's available right from the start! So the low end acceleration will get a significant boost until you reach a certain speed at which point the gasoline engine will be the driving force.

I am aware that BMW introduces a lot of new models in the September time frame, but I don't consider September to be the middle of the year

It's still kick ass performance.Usually these guys pull off traffic lights at very low speed.....testing the transition from electric to gas ( the hardest thing in the design to get right). The few kick downs I've seen...its hauls the mail. The electric motor gives it instant low end torque.Given that I've not driven the car....I can't say how the experience feels behind the wheel. Thanks! The electric motor is sandwiched in the transmission at the back end....next to the torque converter. It will add probably 300-500lbs to the cars weight over the base 50i X6....taking into acct the electric motor, batteries and hardware. Thanks! PalBay

It's the transition I'm wondering about. I know there will be a lot of low end torque but at what rpm will the engine come on at . The turbos come on as you accelerate , so if the engine comes in say 500 rpm there will be some time loss before their power band comes into play.

Anyone know if this engine is going to be tt8 only ?
