the M3 E92 lap it's 8:05 and the X6 5.0i lap it's 8.54...
It doesn't sound like rumor from the article based on quote from a BMW spokesman. Although Tom Plucinksy, Product & Technology Communications Manager, is likely not an engineer, it sounds like he is addressing the critics' biggest complaint against the x6, and that's it's weight.

I can imagine him stumbling with a figure around 5200 lbs, but he was very precise saying ". . . doesn’t feel that you’re riding in a car that weighs 4,894 lbs”. He didn't say a round figure such as 4800 or 4900 or 5000 or etc. He said 4,894. That weight is closer to the range of the 750li - could he have confused the two cars - maybe he mentally misfiled some of the specs for the two cars? Even the x5 is in the 5200 lbs range, so I can't imagine him saying something so far off the mark. My question is how they could have trimmed that much.

One can only dream about the x6 M's performance with well over 500 hp and 375 lbs less weight then the standard x6. On top of that it will have a rear-wheel drive bias. Wow.

That should silence those who say the x6 M doesn't deserve the "M".

absolute precision to the nth degree.

To be absolutely precise, they should have a weight scale @ the ring, so cars' speed & conditions can be qualified. Do some car makers remove floormats & rear seats, run on an almost empty tank to gain an advantage? Is there an official time keeper at the ring to "certfy" the test times that car makers claim?
Or is it on the honor sytem? Is there any honor left?

BMW 'Invisibleised' them

I don't think that the X6M or X5M has any fog lights!

Missing Fog lites on X6M!

I.ve pointed that out in another thread .
The fog lite supplier could not deliver any in time for the launch?
A glaring omission.

So arch', are you saying (I didn't see the other thread you refer to) that BMW intended to have fog lamps but changed their mind based on the availability (or lack of it) of the product?

Actually, I'm not upset about it. I'll liked the fog lamps in the X6, but for some reason the M look has grown on me.

I was initially thinking that BMW may have come up with some new hy tek way of doing it that I didn't know about and you guys were going to enlighten me. Like, maybe the fog lamps were really mounted behind a thinly veiled translucent section of the bumper shell. Or maybe the iris headlamps do double duty (they're too high for fog lamps - jk).

Very good points, arch'.

From now on, I'll try to restrain my exuberant gullibility (Oh, I just want to believe in something - what is this world coming too?!?!).
