2011 X5 35i E70--Valvetronic error 2DCE
Hello there, did a search, Google-wide actually, still can't nail down the exact info I'm hoping to find.
I've had my 2011 X5 35i for about 2 years, bought it with about 35K miles, now has about 65K miles. I've randomly experienced the "ENGINE MALFUNCTION-REDUCED POWER" warning now about 5 times in the past 2 years. It goes away overnight. I was beginning a 175-mile trip yesterday, got about 8 miles out from home and it happened, went into limp mode. I took it back to garage and switched to my Fiat Abarth 500--more reliable than my X5 so far! :-( (Side note--when this happened yesterday--I pulled into a parking lot, killed engine, waited 10 seconds, restarted, warning still on dash, was able to pull out of lot, but then car fairly died, and would not start on first push. Second push got her started, headed home!) I pulled codes using Carly and my Wifi OBDII reader. I'm getting 002DCE, Valvetronic error, no adjustment possible. Seems to be a common error, but I can't seem to find info narrowing that error code down to a single part. I'm finding 3 possible culprits: 1) Valvetronic servo motor 2) Valvetronic eccentric cam shaft 3) Valvetronic sensor. (needs seal as well) Does 2DCE point to a single one of the above? Or could any/all be possibly malfunctioning? The great mystery of course is, the X5 runs fine for months, at full power, long trips. Then, BAMM, no warning, the EMF warning flashes and puts truck into limp mode. How can this be? If the motor was bad, the eccentric or sensor was bad--wouldn't the error be constant? Started it today--no EMF textual warning on iDrive screen--but---have a yellow "engine" icon on the gauge cluster. Truck drives as normal. Would appreciate some words of wisdom from the wise here! 25 views and no feedback? A bit surprised, I thought this was a common occurrence with this series' engines.
I'd like to know if the intermittent nature of the issue, coupled with my single 002DCE code, points to a particular fault. The car runs fine and strong for months, then this happens. Surely the eccentric shaft is OK then? It seems the servo motor would either be completely OK or fail 100%. So maybe the sensor is intermittent? Any feedback is valuable! Greg |

I had similar problems with my 50i.
Random "EMF-Reduced Power" , while driving and hard acceleration, but would go away on its own. BMW dealer said Vacuum pump and breather lines malfuctions. Repaired and now no more warning . |
