Tires please help ASAP
Hey guys
I have a 2012 X5M with 20in wheels I am replacing the tires My choices are currently http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...2297&rc=TSWINT or http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...065&vid=022297 Besides this do you guys have any recommendations? I am new to this car etc, and am very open to any suggestions from some of the more seasoned X5 drivers lol The Pirellis will cost with warranty etc about 3K and the dunlop with warranty about 2.95K Any other recommendations in the same price point, I just would really prefer run flats for my own sanity. Thanks guys! |

these Dunlops are known to be shitty, harsh ride and doesn't last long
the Pirellis also doesn't last long, but at least they offer lots of performance |

If you are comfortable without runflats, go with the Vredestein SUV ultac sessanta. Great, great tire. I ordered them through RDP motorsports, as mentioned in this thread (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145060), posed as a camaro owner, took a long hot shower, and replaced all four tires for 985 delivered. They handle awesome on the dry and are supposed to be one of the best rain tires on the market. And they are symmetric, so they can be flipped side to side. Perhaps the greatest thing about them is ride quality. Greatly improved over the runflats.
If you don't have a spare tire kit, buy one, buy a AAA membership, send me $100 for the great advice, and still put $750 in your pocket versus the cost of the run flats you are looking at. You are welcome. |

No I don't. Anecdotally, I would say they look just a hair narrower than the stock run flats, but the tread pattern is really unique and looks sweet. Watch your installer's face when you roll them in - they aren't sure what to do with them!

Would you recommend I stay away from run flats? My worry is I drive to and from school every day, about 40 miles each way, and its not in the best part of town, so if I get a flat there at night I'm kind of screwed. Thats why I am looking at run flats, besides that its not a necessity for me, if you guys who have had this car longer say that its BETTER without the run flats then I will definitely consider those. I have the tire kit, and a AAA membership loll v |

nabizzy,
There are many that hate the run flats and will tell you so. There are fewer, like me, who find the run flats just fine. We are just less vocal. I really like the safety factor especially when my wife is driving alone for a long distance (like today). |

The ride is much better with conventional tires. You have to choose the factors most important to you. Ride quality, performance, safety, etc.
