X5M Having Trouble Starting

Hey guys, recently my X5M has had a strange issue starting.

When the car has sat for a while (a couple of hours maybe) it seems to take a bit of time to start. Like the starter is spinning just fine but it takes 2-3 seconds to actually catch and start up.

I don't think it is the battery, but what voltage should the battery be reading both before cranking and during cranking? I have a multimeter and can check the voltage.

Does anyone have any other items I can check?

Thanks,
Paul

They are pretty black but have not been shiny in a long time. So it is hard to tell how much soot is on them.

Could be leaking injectors if the cranking start issue only show up after set for few hours but not cold start.

does it sounds similar like this ?

Injectors are a pain in the ass on these cars. The job is tedious and everything has specific torque specs. That and you have to program each new injector with the DME. When I pulled mine out to replace they look like they were swimming in oil.

If you were curious what a drowning/failing injector looks like. From what ive been reading they go around 45k-50k miles.

Is there anyway to test the injectors while they are still in the vehicle?

I swapped a coil and sparkplug followed by clearing the cel i had. Once the lite came back on I looked at the service history and saw the injectors were never replaced.

Not sure if theres a way to check them but the drivers side is a little easier to get to as oppose to the passenger side bank. Forum member M3_guy's tip can point to faulty injectors with the darkening of the exhaust tips.

Injectors were replaced in 2012 with better version ...mine on a 2010 X5M went bad at 70k miles ...BMW NA replaced mine on goodwill due to the number of failures on early X5Ms....when I sold my car recently at 100k miles injectors were still fine and I never had any black tips ....after seeing the various issues still come up on the forums regarding the X5M im glad I sold for P85D ...faster car with no gas !
