Choosing one is entirely subjective.
Budget, options, colors, years, style... If you find a car you like, use the VIN to see what options are on the car. If you're serious about buying a certain unit, have an independent mechanic, or a BMW service center check the car for service history, as well as any glaring issues (e.g. fluid leaks, wear items, etc) |

When I was shopping, I found this VIN decoder helpful - it actually generates an image of what the car "should" look like: http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html.

well, I imagine checking up on a used car in Dubai is much more different than in the US. Here in the US, there is maintenance and warranty programs offered by BMW for the first 4-years, which means the BMW has complete service and warranty fix records at the dealership.
Here in the US, we have a VIN checker to figure out whether the car was in an reported accident. Here in the US, we have 3rd party garages that'll do an independent inspection of the car for a fee. So it's hard for us to advise you exactly what you need to do to check it, but generally, you need to check up on these 3 items I just mentioned, but in your own manner customary I your country.

For the 4.4tt, check for delayed start during warm restart and blackened pipes for leaky injectors.
For the 3.0t, check for hesitation during acceleration for potential carbon buildup, and potential water pump issue. Key is drive it for at least 15-20mins to have the car up to temp. For both, check for consistent vibrations at specific rpm, likely tie to either front driveshaft u-joint, tire inbalance or wheel bearing going, with the former being more serious but have active SIB against for certain MY x5/6. Check for physical play if you can climb under. In general, also check for reverse camera flicker and peeling the trim in the interior. Good luck |
