X3.0 vs X35d
I'm thinking about trading my 2009 x3.0 in for a 2011 x35d. The 3.0 just seems too under powered even more so when temperatures are near or above 100. Has anyone made this change? Will I be happy with diesel? I was thinking diesel because of the $3500 current incentive.

There are a lot of good reasons to opt for the x5d. But if you want more power go for the 35i. Don't get me wrong, the D is great and pulls like a freight train but the power delivery isn't as smooth or quick as the 35i.
We own the x5d by the way. |

Nope. The Federal clean-burn diesel incentives ended on 12/31/10 for all makes/models.

I had a 2007 3.0 X5 which I really loved and got the 2011 35d. I cant tell you how much I just love the new Diesel. The performance is great! I am getting 19.4 in the city and close to 30mpg on the highway. If you do it you will never look back!

OP based on your initial post I inferred that you were looking at the diesel to replace your current x5 because you are unhappy with the power delivery. The 35i is better in that category and pricing is going to be almost the same as the 35d.
Unless you want better fuel efficiency and better towing capability not sure why you would go D. Do you have other reasons to upgrade your current e70? On a side note I bought the x5d over the 35i for the reasons indicated above and I was a little skittish on the n55 reliability. |

Thank you for all of the recommendations. I bought a 2011 X5d yesterday and love it! I drove both the 35d and 35i and am very happy with the pick up that the d offers. Additionally, I averaged 24MPG with only 150 miles on the vehicle, it should really be great once broken in. ESS tuning is currently working on a flash tune for the diesel, this will really get it up out of the hole once this is available.
