In the United States (or at least Northeast Ohio where I live) I can echo the concerns of police being more interested in revenue generation than actual traffic monitoring/policing for safety's sake. Most villages/towns around here are so hard up for money, they set speed traps at locations most likely to maximize revenue, whether or not there is an actual safety concern. Fortunately, most of these townships can only afford radar, so ordinary detectors work well.

In my experience, laser has been an issue on highways/interstates which are usually patrolled by state trooper. Here, I get the sense revenue generation is less of a concern - as I've been told by them several times. Typically, when lasered, if I make an attempt to slow my speed down and maintain it AND I'm not travelling in ridiculous excess of the surrounding traffic then I'm usually left alone and good to go. Anyone else with this experience in other states?

I do not know much about laser shifters but they sound expensive and unlikely to work well IMO.

Since I asked my question I have discovered a number of tests on YouTube. Search on "9500ci".

There's also one called the Blinder Extreme M25/M45. It is a lidar-only device, while the 9500ci is both lidar and radar. The Blinder and the 9500ci jam lidar using the same method.

Unless the test are phoney, both seem to work quite well. But they are VERY expensive.

I've had the (bad) luck of getting 2 tickets on the same day from the same cop @2 different locations! in the summer w/ a grey mercedes sedan. would not chance it without a detector on a turbo. It eventually saves u enough in tickets & higher insurance premium to take a holiday. My installer is line-up/busy installing the escort in ferraris, bentley coupes, porsches, lambos, astonmartins, mb sls, bmw ms, 6s & 7s.
