burning oil

anyone with a 5.0 or x5m have any issues with burning oil? oil level went yellow today so I had a quart delivered to work.

wonder if it has anything to do with the dinan stage 2 software I had installed.

I am yet to see a white 50i with clean rear bumper. All of them seem to have black soot, i.e. burn oil. Plenty of threads on this forum.
Is it normal? I guess so, but for 5.0 only.

My 4.8 burns oil too. So does the wife's x3. It gets driven alot. Almost a year old and 22,000 mi on it. BMW says 1 quart burned for every 1000 mi driven is within normal limits. Seems high to me.

I have a 2011 x5 50i with 40,000 miles. It burned 1qt every 1300 miles, I track these things. I never felt very comfotable with this or the extended periods between recommended oil changes. A couple of months ago I brought this up with my Dealer again and they said that there was TSB which they did which installs a check valve somewhere. They couldn't or wouldn't explain where to me but I'm guessing that it is some type of PCV valve that reduces the amount of oil burned. Since they did the TSB my oil consumption has dropped dramatically.
On another note, after they did the check valve installation I noticed as I drove away from Ferman's BMW in Palm Harbor Florida, that the oil level was critical. Turned around and went straight back to the dealer. OOps, they had "forgotten" to add oil after taking 3 days to install the check valve. Thanks Ferman's.

Oil Catch Can anyone? I mean it's not magically disappearing and I'm probably going to wager that it's lining the inside of your intercooler piping??? No real reason a modern turbo engine should be burning oil, dumping it into the intercooler piping... i can see them doing that from decades ago for emissions reasons in the USA.

+1. Burger Tuning makes catch cans for the N55, but nothing for the N63. Once I find the time, I will buy 2 BMS catch cans and rig them to work with my 750Li.
