BMW Canada Rejects Order X5M
BMW Canada has rejected my order for an X5M.
The message is zero flexibility. The choices are those on our web site. We know better than you. I will be writing to the CEO in the new year to explain why he is loosing a 20 year customer. So options 1) Order from a US Dealer, 2) Range Rover Supercharged, or 3) Mercedes ML63 AMG |

What they will not sell
The first request was for an Individual leather option that is listed on the BMW Corporate site.
When they refused that, I requested the multiple contour active ventilated seats in Silverstone. This is an option in the US. They say if I want that they will not make the car an M. It makes no sense to me. There is only one assembly line. Seat covering colones are not part of safety testing. It sounds like there is somebody at BMW Canada who is either trying to drive me to another dealer or who is just stubborn. |

BMW Canada has tentatively agreed to the order (Individual leather) - for production as a 2012 model in the third quarter of 2011. The other option that they have given is a a Silverstone interior - full leather wit multi contour active ventilated seats M logos and shadowline roof rails. So I am ready to do the deal with my second choice of interior.
Now I am ready to talk price with the dealer. The dealer says "not now, do you mind waiting a couple of weeks?" I know that they do not get credit from BMW until delivery but one of the first principles of sales is "get ink on paper". It used to be that you had to call the calvary to get out of a dealership without signing. I am completely puzzled. |

Third quarter of 2011? This isn't a Ferrari 458 convertible! All for some silly leather option that nobody cares about? I don't get it. For what it's worth, I have an X5M and it's sick.

I'd bet he wants you to wait so it gets recorded in his dealership allocation for 2011 instead of 2010.
I know ther are all kinds of different tactics dealers use to get what they want instead of what BMW forces them to take and messing around with allocations and tming of sales is one of them. My impression is that BMW is pretty demanding of the dealers and the successful dealers are very good at using the rules to their benefit.

Still waiting to hear - they have agreed in principle but nothing is writing. Latest is maybe next week. In the meantime, Porsche announced price reductions today due to the rise in the CDN $

BMW Individual program seems to be very flexible. Check this out, I am sure BMW will let you get what you want.
http://www.bmwblog.com/2010/03/24/bm...os-and-videos/ Customization is the new BMW mantra , they want customers to buy customized BMW's so the company spends less on inventory. |

Sometimes there is a reason for everything. Amid all my frustration with BMW Canada, they agreed to my second choice in therms of interior trim. The local dealer has been very busy selling as many stock units as possible before year end, so asked that I wait a few days before finalizing an order.
Then the new combox non-announcement comes out regarding iPhone app as of March production. So better to wait for a March production slot. Then today, I get an unsolicited job offer - part time in Switzerland, part time in the Caribbean. Just when I though life was getting dull and I needed 555hp to spice it up. |
