DYNO results:SinghAutosport FLASH '10 X6 50i 442hp/600lbft (369hp/500lbft)

So I finally had the truck dyno'd. It has 1100 miles on it, 700 miles on the Singh Autosport flash. As I mentioned before, the truck is a BEAST!! it has incredible pick-up, which did not come as a surprise after I saw the numbers.

I had this done at ICS PERFORMANCE OF STANFORD, CT. The owner is George Kakaletris - I have been using the shop for a lot of my BMW/MB work for a few years now. They do some incredible stuff over there... Great people.

Disclaimer: they use a Dynojet. The X6 has an airflow meter and the cooling fans were not adjusted for the speed of the car so the horsepower figures are low since they didn't peak at higher speeds (only a smaller fan was used). Singh Autosport claims that the horsepower should be up to about 480hp and 516lbft torque. I got around 442hp and 600lbft torque (1.2 correction factor). The numbers got higher with each run as the engine warmed up and then started dropping off as it got too hot. I have a Remus exhaust on it.

Overall, i think the numbers are IMPRESSIVE. It definitely made a big difference in the way the truck feels. It's incredible how fast it accelerates. When i put it in sports mode (RPMs kept around 2000) it is more responsive than a lot of my other cars, ... forget about trucks. It is definitely worth the money... I am waiting for Jags (owner of Singh Autosport) to send me their dyno sheet and compare it to mine.

The first file has the numbers raw - uncorrected. The second SAE. I picked 1.2 factor (20% loss) out of my butt. :-)

Good gains - what was the cost of doing this?

The flash cost is $1295. The exhaust is about $1200 as well.... I don't think the muffler is doing much to these numbers...

What formula did you use to convert the rear wheel data to break hp?

may I get a sound clip of the Remus? or do I have to come out and visit you? I really want to hear the sound of the exhaust. I am trying to decide between the Remus or perhaps wait for eisenmann. I really want to keep the stock tips. I just want that deep tone at idle... I am really considering this tune as well...

As I mentioned in the post, i multiplied the raw numbers (369hp and 500lbft torque) by 1.20 - number which I pulled out of my a*s.... Which would give me the 442hp and 600lbft torque. This would account for a 17% loss of power and torque from the flywheel to the wheels... which I think is certainly reasonable for a 4 wheel drive vehicle with automatic transmission. But like I said, the reason why the hp is so low is because the truck was struggling for air at the high rpm's/speed... I am almost tempted to go back and re-dyno it with huge fans in front...
Overall, the truck is AWESOME and I am VERY happy with it... I had a 2008 Jeep SRT8 which I just sold - the pickup on the X6 is AMAZING when compared to anything else out there I have tried out... In some ways it feels more aggressive then my SL55 AMG - which has 515hp and 540 lbft of torque - especially at low rpms 2000-3500....

i actually have a VIDEO of the truck on the dyno and you can certainly hear the exhaust... however, i have to tell you that the sound overall is a disappointment. It doesnt really sound that much better at low rpm. The truck is still very quiet - something I miss from my Jeep SRT8.... However, I think that it LOOKS much better with the dual exhausts... so it's worth it in the end. I guess... :-)

You can always come by and listen to it... PM me.

Yep, your factor was there - sorry - over it. I've seen the 1.2 or 20 percent loss factor used a number of times.

As far as the fans go, don't think you can get enough air through there.

You probably saw Diana talk about it - he's got these wind tunnel fans. Don't know why these serious dyno shops don't invest in some credible air moving equipment. You'd think because it's their stock and trade they'd want to do it right.

Well, most of the shops don't invest in the fans because most cars DON'T have airflow meters... those shops use the fans just to keep the engine cool. The X6 can actually measure the "speed" of the air coming in, so the car can "tell" that it is actually hitting the speed you would expect with those high RPMs and it thus lets the engine loose... When it's NOT reading the correct airspeed coming in then it "tones down" the engine output so it wont overheat... if it makes sense. Some cars with airflow meters actually have a "dyno mode" where it takes the airflow speed out of the equation and pushes the engine to the max... I'm not sure if the X6 has that.

Well, the stupidity of the whole thing is that ICS PERFORMANCE shop actually HAS these huge fans I just didn't think of asking them to use them - I'm not sure if they knew about the airflow meter. The K&N Dyno facility out West which is one of the most advanced in the country is like a wind tunnel - the air speed is adjusted to trick the car into "believing" it's actually achieving the right speed and pushing the output to the max... Well, whatever. all said and done, the truck is a BEAST... :-)

The OEM performance upgrade was available when u bought your car?
From your comments I understand that u are satisfied with the performance gained.
Where can we see the clip with your exhaust?
Cheers!

The performance upgrade was available but I would have had to buy the $4100 sports package + $1400 for the performance upgrade for 40hp and 40lbft trq - this way I spent $1500 for the sports "activity" package (same as the regular sports package minus the suspension stuff) + $1295 for the flash for 50hp (at least) and 150 lbft trq. Probably a better deal this way

They have worked on all of my cars as well (ICS PERFORMANCE, Stanford, CT) -from suspension to tuning, breaks, exhaust... everything. They really know what they are doing and George, the owner, is a very fair guy. :-)
