Rough Idle then stalls after starting

Intermittently, my 2012 X5 35i starts, has a rough idle for a few seconds and then dies. This happens when its warmed up or starting cold. It doesnt happen every time, but enough now that its really worrying me.

Yesterday, when it happened i got a "low battery charge" light. This is the first time this has happened (the light). Sometimes other lights are triggered (like the yellow parking brake light). A couple times it has died after a few mins of running when putting in park.

My X5 sits for 4-6 days sometimes without being driven. I'm thinking its a battery issue, but I have read possibly fuel pump?

Anyone experience this before?

Yes. It's the battery/cold. Goes in to limp mode, then stalls. Get a new battery. I'm sure after restarting and driving its fine aka not the FP.

EDIT: get a battery tenderer. Mine sits as well, i put 12k miles on mine since May 2014. Try that first.

Thank you so much for the reply.

Anyone have any experience swapping these out? I have Carly and can register the battery myself.

Any gotcha's i need to look out for?

Be careful when removing the +/- terminals from the battery. Make sure your remove them cleanly. Making a lot of contact with the terminals (energizing/de-energizing the system) can fry the FRM.

Theres a thread on here where someone used a nice deep cycle XS battery. I'd get that and pay someone to remote code the battery to avoid alternator issues.

Wanted to share that I have read on other forums that Carly does not always "officially" register the battery. It will tell you that it did so, but if you poke around in the data some have found that the registration date was not updated.

I just went through this, Mine was the High Pressure Fuel pump.
I have a 2012 35i with 99K miles.

It would crank for about 3-7sec before starting and then idle rough or low.

New HPFP and it starts as soon as you push the button and idles smoother then ever.

Hope that helps.

How much was the repair? I just had the first time the idle after start was "rough" where is revved up to 1500 down to 500 a few times before idling smoothly.
