Question Oil in Throttle body + EGR + Charge air line

2011 35d, 80k miles

CEL came on, so I hooked up INPA to find a valve actuator short circuit (43D1, 43D2).

I removed the charge air line from the throttle body and saw oil in both the throttle body and the air line. After removing I saw buildup in the EGR as well as more oil.

I have a replacement throttle body, but I need to chase down where the oil is coming from before replacing. Any ideas?

EGR and charge air line in view

WTH?

Valve cover gasket? My finest search skills about diesels yield:
"its comes mostly from poor oil/air seperation of the crankcase breather (and sometimes a turbo with tired oil seals)."

For 80k it's totally fine.... I mean, it's as expected. Just clean the EGR.

Good to hear. I do however suspect the oil as the culprit in short circuiting the throttle actuator. I'd like to find away to reduce the presence of engine oil flowing through.

Totally normal. In fact your egr looks really clean compared to most I've seen with that mileage.

Oil comes from the crank case vent, turbos and some leaks around the valve stem seals. So having oil in the intake is totally normal and not preventable.

Poor separation in crank case breather. Totally preventable.
Lookup "ProVent" in that other forum.

I had exact same issue at 90K miles, with addition of crank case return hose (the one going back to intake) decomposing and leaking oil all over engine side.

Increased oil consumption as well.

Since ProVent install (not that hard for DIY), no increase in consumption and throttle body is dry.

Here's how my EGR looked at around your same mileage:

Then after some cleaning with Acetone:
