323tom's X5M

Hey guys, new forum member here from the Toronto area… been lurking the site for a while and finally pulled the trigger on a Alpine white 2013 X5M on Red with 47km After searching for roughly 6 months. I was looking for 2012-2013 Alpine white or Black (no carbon black) with Cinnamon or Red interior and 50km or less which wasn't easy to find…Eventually I found the unicorn I was looking for and I worked out a deal privately with the original owner of the vehicle which took really good care of it and is also an M enthusiast like myself. He spared no dollar when it came to options as it came loaded with pretty much every option including LED adaptive headlights, the lovely comfort seats and Individual Audio II which sounds top notch in my opinion. The BMW warranty was also extended till 2019. It had never been winter driven until now which I really feel bad about but with the new 19" winter tire setup (Toyo observe gsi-5 tires) the car is a beast in the snow! so far I have only bought the winter tire/rim setup and weather tech floor matts and also had it Rustproofed as I always do with all my year round driven vehicles (twice a year) and NONE have rust. Felt really bad drilling holes into this baby but the salty roads around here destroy cars. Bought the car in Montreal roughly 600KM from my house and flew out and drove back, luckily no problems on the way back in a snow storm. Unfortunetely a few days later the vehicle starts chugging while I'm driving normally 60km/h roughly 3km from my house. A minute after it goes into limp mode within 1 km from my house so I drove it home and had it towed to BMW the following morning. The injectors, secondary turbo coolant pump and accelerator pedal were all replaced under warranty. I was really surprised they had to replace the accelerator pedal on a 2 year old car...Car drives great and pulls HARD now. Cant imagine you guys with the tunes/supporting mods (once warranty expires I will be there too)

As for mods I usually mod the shit out of my cars right away but this one I want to keep super clean and as OEM looking as possible…but I do plan on a few mods haha…remove the x5m badge and powder coat the callipers red and eventually looking to upgrade the stock 20" summer wheels to a set of 22" HRE's. Any other suggestions?

Pics are quick Blackberry shots, Will post better pics when the snow is gone so I can properly wash and wax the beast and summer wheel setup is on. Couple pics of my/GFs other cars..

Alpine White over Mugello Red with LEDs - doesn't get much better than that. Well done

Any more pics of the LSB M3? Looks like you've got LSB interior too? Super rare!

The blue is nicer on a dark exterior and without red interior.. would have actually preferred the black callipers the 2012 and prior models have... thats my opinion at least

and I can look around for more pics of the LSB M3 which it also has LSB interior and custom LSB Brembo callipers and also I installed a maximum stage 1 turbo kit, the other e46 is wide body/fully built motor and stage 4+ turbo and pushing 1070whp..

What tune do you recommend? Seems like most go for Velos, AA or Eurocharged… Theres actually a eurocharged location not far from me, any comparisons out there?

Thanks but I'm set on the red calipers. If you had red ones I would swap you at my house for free since I have a hoist and do my own brake/suspension work on my vehicles.

If you're just going to do a tune they are all pretty close. There's only so much you can do with the stock hardware. I have AA and the customer service was great. Answered all my questions right away and turned around the tune in less then a hour just so I could have the tune for the weekend.

I got the OBDII cable (Simon3) so I can install and remove my tune when I wanted to and not have to go to a shop.

Fair enough. If you unload the tune would the dealer know it was tuned incase I need to go in for warranty work? Might do an exhaust down the road and possibly down pipes..Thanks

The short answer is no your dealer can't tell but yes BMW can tell even if you flash it back.

The full answer is if you have a high dollar claim BMW
will require the dealer to open a PUMA case ( it's a failure analysis program designed to catch high failure items and correct them. It just so happens to catch modified cars in the process) which will require them to down load the data from your ecu and send it to BMW for analysis. At that point they can tell.

So unless you blow the bottom end out of the truck (impossible on these canned tunes, they are very conservative) it's not an issue and your dealer doesn't care to be honest.

Thanks for the imformative post. I will most likely wait a year or so until I tune the vehicle. Also my gf drives the x5m to work daily and I daily drive my tuned duramax diesel 2500 Silverado so I'm not quite hungry for extra power yet. Another tune based question, have any of the tune companies proven better mpg vs stock? Obviously driving normally not heavily footed.

The X5M is currently at the dealer, dropped it off yesterday as the vibration/pulsating noises I heard starting last week got worse. Ended up being a wheel bearing which is insane at 48,000km and on top of that the check engine light also came up again this time for a inter cooler sensor or something, my SA said the parts will be in on Monday and I'll have it back by the end of the day. What a PITA, hopefully after this visit I don't have to go to the dealer for a while as I will be doing my next 2 oil changes myself.

Few new updates with the X5M. For now I put the stock 20s back on until may or so when the weather and potholes get fixed and the new HREs are going on!

-IND paint matched side markers and reflectors

-BMW performance front grilles (ones I got with vehicle were plasti dipped)

-HRE 940RL 22x11 and 22x13 with Pirelli P zero tires (bought off fellow forum member) I am currently having the lips refinished on all 4 as they all have a few small nicks and I want them to be PERFECT

-Updated 2016 GPS maps

-Debadged x5m emblems on the trunk

Near Future mods:

-Drilled rotors from newer body style X5M
-Air Rex struts with Air lift digital management
-Velos Tune
-Eisenmann Exhaust
-Rear CF diffuser

Any other suggestions?

Got the HRE wheels on couple weeks ago, been really busy haven't had a chance to post pics. Anyways washed the car the other day and snapped a few with the phone and here they are, Yes I know it needs to go down but I am still saving for the air ride.
