LUX H8 160 & Weisslicht V4 Comparison
2011 BMW X5 50i xdrive w/ M package E70
I know there are a lot of threads on LED headlight replacements, especially Weisslicht vs. LUX. I have yet to find a thread on the Weisslicht V4 and the newest LUX H8 160. I've purchased the Weisslicht version4 (ultra white) a few months ago and the LUX H8 160 today. I just want to create a simple thread that compares these two newest models of LED headlights, post pictures of them installed and finally, Weisslicht v4 in one headlight and LUX H8 160 in the other at the same time to see differences. I'll be posting the comparisons throughout the next week. Weisslicht V4 (ultra white) - $165 LUX H8 160 (fixed 7,000K cool white) - $199 ** Side note for those who do further research, the LUX H8 160 is newer than the LUX H8 V5. The V5 has a color adjustable setting (5,000K - 12,000K... the 5,000K side of the spectrum is more white and the 12,000K side is an intense blue) |

Weisslicht V4
I've noticed that depending on the distance away you're looking at the headlights determines how the halos look. The farther away, the outer halo seems to be more pronounce (see first photo). However, as you move closer, the outer halo seems to fade away (see second photo).
LUX H8 160 coming in the next week. Waiting for shipping notification. [IMG][/IMG] Last edited by PLZ_M3; 07-15-2015 at 07:26 PM.. |

After installing the LUX H8 160 and comparing it to the Weisslicht V4, it's hard to say which I like better. Pictures won't show a comparison because the pictures of the two look the same but in person you can see the differences. I will say LUX isn't lying one bit when they advertise the 160's as a "cool white." The Weisslicht have a hint of blue and fill the outer rings a little less than the LUX. The 160's are more white and fill the outer rings a tad better. This is going to have to be something you decide after seeing in person.
Overall, they both are visible during a sunny day. Your decision is going to come down to your color preference and how you like each fill the outer rings. |

Perry, I completely agree. The LUX 160s are the closest to what the new BMW's halos look like. I currently have them installed.
I purchased the spektrum LED fog lights from bimmian when I bought the Weisslicht halos. Unfortunately, they aren't white like the LUX 160s so they don't match. So if you've seen those fog lights, then you'll know what the weisslicht halos will look like in terms of color. |

Definitely LUX 160's. There are two variations of LUX. One with a set color (cool white) and another option where you can set the color (different hues-white). Take a look at their website. But definitely LUX for these reasons:
1.) the outer halos are lit way better than what the weisslicht do 2.) more visible during the day 3.) color is closest to the new factory BMW halos (cool white setting. Mind you if you get the pair where you can set the color, there are options for a more blue but you can also get that cool white). |

Considering we're three or four iterations of the latest headlights away now with our older X5s, there's even less of a reason to mess with these headlights. Just put it some bulbs for a few dollars that make them less piss yellow and call it a day. All the lights mentioned above make the inner halo very bright, and the outer halo look like they're broken.

Well, the 2011 X5 E70 doesn't have stock LED halos in the front, like the new style BMWs. Your claim/question about increasing the wattage is counterintuitive. If increasing the wattage made the LED brighter, this doesn't always make the LED brighter anyway, would still make the inner halo brighter than the outer halo. Both halos are illuminated by one light fixture, which originates from a socket behind the inner halo. The halos themselves are not LED 'bands' like the tail lights or the newer BMW headlights.
Regardless, I'm happy with my purchase. They look better than the yellow halogens and honestly, the inner halos are unnoticeably brighter when the X5 is driving toward you on the road. Only slight variations in brightness when you're standing 5 feet in front of the car. |

I too installed the Lux H8 160 in my X5, and I just received a second set for my M3. They are definitely the best option for those of us with the non LED corona rings in our E70s.
You can't increase the wattage of just the outer ring because its one bulb that lights both rings, strictly through light refraction. So, the best options are upgrading to the full LED headlights (for those with X6 or X5M/X6M) or get the Lux H8 160 bulbs and not worrying about it anymore... Option 1 is about $4000, option 2 is $200. I went with Option 2, and I'm over it past that!
