Oil Change on 2010 X5M. fluid black right away?

Hey all! I took my X5 M E70 in to the mechanic to get an oil change, before seeing this thread. And, I realized that the mechanic could actually scam you out of an oil change, since there's no dipstick to check right away if the oil's clean or not. So, 4 days after the oil change, I got nervous, so I found the oil drain plug underneath, and drained a very small amount onto a white egg container(which works perfectly as I can compare the color). The oil to my surprise was very dark brown, almost black! Did I get scammed? Or is the oil supposed to get black right away (4 days later). They supposedly put in a new filter and 8.5 Liters of new synthetic oil. The motor is a 4.4L twin turbo gasoline, NOT diesel. I know I should have checked it right away, but my other car which has a 2L turbo engine, doesn't get black within 4 days. Thanks!

Oil went black on my 35d right away after a oil change. I can tell you have some good ass high grade egg from those fancy wrappers

Second what Richard said. My 35d oil goes black immediately even if I let the old stuff drain for a good hour.

Ok. Cool, thanks guys. Yep, some expensive eggs they were! But, those are diesel aren't they? I know that diesel goes black right away, but gasoline engines?

My diesel has been deleted shouldn’t go black anyway. It still went black after I drove home from my shop

Shouldn't be black right away on a non-D.

How long was it prior to this past oil change? If there was gunk build up it could be cleaning out. I'd get another change done

Yeah, I was thinking to do that. You mean right away, or in a few months?

This is perfectly normal and there’s no reason for alarm. Oil changes color extremely fast due to a number of reasons, most of it in part of heat cycles and soot.

Changing oil because of color coincides with the myth that it must be dirty/old oil. If you want to change the oil go right ahead but after that oil change I’d be a betting man your “New” oil with be the same color in the same time period if using the same oil.

If you are really concerned, get a test kit and send it off for analysis. You will get all of the info you could ever want on your oil, and a baseline, so that next change you can do it again and see how your oil is performing, and get a good idea of the overall condition of the engine internally.
