E70 X5 - M50d Brake Retrofit to a 30D xDrive
Hi all,
New to X5's, and looking to do a brake upgrade! From what I can see the brake calipers from a M50d (either E70 or F15) will bolt straight onto my E70 LCI 30d xDrive with no mods required - this seems to be the case for the front and rear set up! So in summary, I would need: M50d calipers, pads, rotors for front and rear. However - my question is pedal feel. I can see that my 30d uses the same Master Cylinder as the M50d, however I have read examples of people describing a softer pedal following the swap. I have seen no mention of coding though from my research - does anyone know if there is an option to code the E70 X5 following a brake upgrade? I have seen on F15's that you can code a sport brake option, which allegedly relieves the issue with soft pedal? |

There's no brake coding for E70. But are you sure you won't need new carriers and back plates for the fronts?
Re F15, I could be mistaken since I don't own one , but I believe the coding merely registers the replacement, and does nothing else. |

Sorry, yes the calipers I have seen come with carriers!
Backing plates, I am not sure, but I would purchase those from the dealer anyway just in case! I am coming from the E9x scene, and there is a possibility to code the E9x cars to reflect a sport brake option, so I wasn't sure if that was the same with the comparable age E series X5 (E70) This is the thread I read which suggests a softer pedal after a BBK install on the F series X5: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1178827 I have also come across something similar being mentioned about the E series pedal feeling softer post BBK install too, but now I cant find it to link into here!!! |

Looking to try to upgrade my brakes once the car arrives, can anyone confirm if I need to worry about coding the car for bigger brakes - to improve the pedal feel?
I dont want to fit a BBK and regret it due to a soft pedal! |

Hope someone can help me if they have carried out this process before. I have a LCI E70 40d msport and I am looking to upgrade my braking system, I am not looking at the expenses of brembo 4 or 6 pot but rather the x5 50d system which uses a much bigger caliper and discs (40/36/385). I see this is a very popular upgrade that guys use on the F15 (e70 50d brakes on a x5 f15) but there are reports of coding the sport brake option due to a soft pedal feel? No as I will be looking to install the e70 50d calipers on a e70 40d has any one done this and reported back of brake pedal feel and if there is option for coding? Any help much appreciated |
