TPMS Transponder locations | E70 3.0si

Hey there - my first post, new owner of a 2008 X5 E70 with the 3.0 si + comfort access. When I bought it it was already throwing the TPMS codes for the RDC module (Antenna under the driver side) + all 4 wheels. Considering the age of the tires (mismatched from multi years/brands) I did the following.

Just put new tires on the car and when I did I also added new OEM TPMS sensors to the wheels that transmit on the 433Mhz frequency. I own a Launch TPMS tool and I verified and “initiated” the new TPMS sensors in all 4 tires. ** Discount tire didn’t want to do that and said the typical “It’s a BMW it will reset”

Using my launch tool for TPMS, I cleared the DTC’s and all 4 tires showed green. I then OBDII loaded the scanned TPMS ID’s into the ECU. Change took and then I went for a drive…2 min later “Bing!”…TPMS with same 5 error codes for Antenna and 4 tires

I bought off of eBay a used Antenna (Part # 6 771 043-01), as well as a set of 4 used Transponders (Part # 6 771 042-02 01). I also bought a new RDC module for under the dash (Part # 6 782 800-01)

This completes the total of 10 parts that make up the TPMS system.

I found the Antenna pretty easy under driver side above the plastic cover…
But I cannot find in the front wheel well (Left or right) the transponders or the wiring for them ?? Can anyone point me to a diagram/image that shows the locations? I have done multiple google searches for text and images and come up empty. Found a great you tube for this issue on a 2007 e70 but locations are not the same exactly, but also why I’m hunting these transponders in the front wheel wells/bumper area

Thanks for the read and assist
Brian

I can't find anything other than generic system description, nothing specific showing actual location :-(

Well, I guess I feel a little bit better that my searches resulted in a dead end as well. I was trying to avoid removing the entire front wheel liners since that means new plastic rivets when I put it all back together, the only other place it can be is on the backside of the wheel wells Towards the cabin ??, the rears were easy to find in quick to replace

The only suggestion I have is if you don't have one, get the plastic rivet tool kit from Harbor Freight... it works great!

Sorry for late reply gents...I didn't get any emails that I had reply to review ...

So yes I verified they are behind the wheel molding not in the bumper area. I am now chasing this further.

I have tested for 12+ at the RDC Antenna as well as the transponders. I do not get a constant 12+...I get pulsing power (using Multi-meter as well as test light). I assume this is my issue as this would need constant 12+ correct ? Does someone have access to the RDC wiring ? I used my multi0meter on the RDC unit under the dash and all I see for power is an orange/yellow wire with only .030-.049 volts (DC) and its goes up and down. No other power to any wires

** I did check the 5 amps fuse and its good and test light shows hot on both sides of the fuse, I even took it out OHM'd it and took sand paper to the terminals of it to ensure clean connection.

Im puzzled for sure as I have all new gear now and INPA shows same 5 error codes - I have to believe this lack of constant 12v to the modules is the issue ?

Well I was able to answer my own question, woke up this AM thinking about this Damn TPmS/RDC error and the random low power to the RDC.

Using my test light with the from fuse panel lowered and testing the 5 amp fuse I observed the same pulsing and low voltage….gave the wires a few tugs and pulls and boom constant 14 v to the RDC unit…I used INPA and verified I could start to see the tire’s report in so now I know I need to find where it’s loose and make the repair
