E70 MSport Winter Wheel/Tire Package

Hi everyone,

Currently shopping around for a pair of winter wheel/tires for my wifes 2011 X5 35i MSport. This suv came with the huge 20" MSport wheels with 20x10 275/40R20 and 20x11 315/35R20. I don't think regular E70 wheels/tires will end up fitting this package but wanted to check in with you all. When I look at tire rack, I see normal 35i Sports Activity can fit 18" and 19" wheels but when i check 50i MSport, it only fits 19" wheels. They recommend 19x8.5 wheels with 255/50R19 blizzaks. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike. If you can’t find a staggered wheel setup, You can still find lightly used winter tires in the same stock size. I tried a square 275 setup for winter, but just didn’t like the look in the rear. I ended up going back with the 275 upfront and 315 rear for my winter set up, which complements the summer set up.

That's true. I'm sure I would like the look of the OEM tire/wheel size a lot more than slimmer wheels/tires. I just would really like a dedicated set of winter tires and summer/spring/fall tires I think. I don't want to go through the hassle of changing out the tires before/after every season. Thanks tho!!

No problem. That’s what I have. I have replica 214s for my winter setup, which match up perfectly with my OEM 214s for my summer setup. Nice used wheel sets are out there, so it’s worthwhile to take your time finding them.

For 35i I would suggest 18’ wheels with 255/50 tires since you will save on the cost of tires, could probably get a new set for around 1k.

Last season I ran 275/315 staggered setup on my M and the rear felt like it was unstable at times ... switched to a 275/45 on all fours and performance is night and day ... bit of a stretch in rear but I don’t mind the look.

The best is the 19x18 wheels square set up with 255/50/19’s. I found a set off of an x5M/x6M. They require spacers with hub adapters since the M-Sport has 2 different hub sizes. I found the spacers with hub adaptation thru Turner Motorsports, they work great! They look fine and I mean they are winter wheels.

ECS also has the spacers, but I recommend the Turner ones. They have built in “slots” for easy removal with a screw driver!
