Pre-purchase Inspection of a 2011 X5 35i

Hello Friends

I found a 2011 X5 35i with 67,000 miles and had a pre-purchase multi-point inspection completed at a nearby BMW dealership and got the following list of things to be replaced:

1. Valve Cover Reseal
2. Spark Plugs and coils
3. Front brake - pads and rotors
4. Front Control Arm replacement
5. 2x Rear Tires (currently rated at 3/32). Front tires seem ok for now 8/32

Nothing mechanically wrong just the items listed above that seem more maintenance. Would you buy this car or walk away? Seller is asking $15K?

Appreciate your responses.

That is easily 3K worth of labor and parts, assuming BMW servicing. Maybe 30% less from a non-BMW dealer.

Even if it hasn't hit the required mileage, the age alone would want me to replace other things like most if not all fluids.

Maybe the kbb or edmunds price is on point, the servicing required is a bit of a stickler here.

$15k seems a tad expensive to me for a 2011 35i. That might be dependent on whether you're willing to travel though, as I'm in the market and searching a 500 mile radius for the best deals. I'm seeing similar mileage on 2013's in the $16-17k's. I'm looking at a 2013 50i asking $17k with the same mileage as the one you are looking at (and a new engine). Just sharing my take on the market as I'm looking everyday too.

By the way, how much was the pre-purchase inspection from the BMW dealership? Trying to decide if I should go there or a private shop. Good luck in your search . . .

I paid $188 for the PPI, an indy shop that works on BMW is a good idea as well. They'll likely charge ~$150 as well. I'm only looking at 35i's trying to stay clear of 50is as the v8 isn't something I want to mess with. Too many known and documented issues.

Agreed. Definitely priced a bit higher than average but its in very good cosmetic and mechanical condition based on the PPI. Just needs some maintenance items to be done. My search radius is no more than 50 miles.

How bad is the leak? Sometimes dealers will say a seal needs to be replaced the minute they seem moisture on it, when in reality it’s not a problem. Same deal with the control arms. I’m guessing a lot of people here are rolling on worn out suspension and it’s not a huge concern

Price seems to be in the right range for the NY area.

Get everything done as listed except the seals. I have done all of them too in my 2011 X5 50

It is a great deal considering the car is cosmetically very good.. Your low mileage is a big bonus. Most are above 100k for that year.
