How many miles, has it sat for a long time? Did you put some off brand of gas in it? If you're driving don't let it ping especially going up hills-this is bad for the engine. |

It has 117k miles but it started doing it when I had someone replace timing cover gaskets. I checked today and found this broke tho. Would that cause codes or engine to run rough. I always use good gas and keep maintenance up to date.

yes those are vent lines that are part of the PCV system. Your car should run very rough if they are broken open like that. They all crack/break at some point as they are made of cheap brittle plastic. They aren't fun to replace and aren't cheap.
Hard to tell exactly which ones are broken, here is a link for the crankcase vent pipe http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_3830 another breather line http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=13_1034 Last edited by xpl0sive; 02-04-2016 at 02:45 PM.. |

I have a similar car and I also broke the pcv hose while adjusting the timing chain, by car started idling roughly sometimes as well, mostly when I start it or at stoplights at low rpm’s, it stalled out once on me, I fixed the hose with electrical tape but not sure if that is holding it together, the x5 2007-2010 model has a recall for the pcv heater, maybe that’s something bmw could fix?
