Not sure how you get there, video is 95 percent showing the porsche with little mention at the end that the X6 is faster. Not what I would call a controlled test or even loosely controlled street race.

Facts according to AutoBild Sportscars (No 9, September 2008)

Time around Nürburgring (Nordschleife)

BMW X6 - 8.54,40
Cayenne GTS - 9.01,90

So, the BMW was 7.5 seconds faster around the track. They mentioned that the Cayenne is a bit faster in the curves due to the sport mode suspension, where the ground clearance is lowered to only 13 cm compared with BMW's constant clearance of 21.2 cm. The Cayenne had also slightly better brakes but BMW was faster on the straights, which was sufficient to be faster all in all.

Of course a car is faster if you lower the center of gravity that much. Would like to know what an 8 cm lower X6 would make around the track. Pretty sure that it would be faster in the bends than the Cayenne... Generally, the more curvy track, the better for the Porsche and the opposite for BMW, the more straights the better.

This has already been posted in another thread here somewhere and has been discussed in length as well.

This is also not a fair comparison since the driver WANTED the Porsche to win. He even took all the excess weight out of the Porsche to make it lighter. I've seen the original (German only) version and it was pretty obvious that:

1) he doesn't like the idea of a 'sporty' SUV and thinks its ridiculous to build one in the first place and that there is and never will be anything sporty about an SUV

2) he TOTALLY roots for the Porsche (just look at how much video coverage the Cayenne got over the X6!)

Thanks for some data, wasn't getting what original poster was saying. In the end it said x6 was faster but "Tim didn't like all the ugly stuff around the engine", guess some people just like their cars to be square.

As xdrive said go with what you like. Don't pay any attention to some hack that put up a youtube video, anyone can do that. I'm not sure who Tim is but I've never heard of him ( remember if they have to tell you their famous, they aren't).

Do research at well know sites that have done comparisons like some of the ones below, go test drive each car.

+1

I saw that thing before and even though I can't understand German, it's clear that guy is a solid Porsche fan, or at least highly paid driver to do a little back door advertising for Porsche.

You've got to remember that marketing companies are very smart these days. Even though we would see this guy as a paid proxy doing a Porsche ad, other people would see him an unbiased driver who just happened to do a test, just like Edmunds, Car/Driver, R&T, etc. This type of thing is really easy on youtube.

Don't let it bother you. I've loved Porsche all my life, just like Ferrari, etc. They all have their relative strengths and weaknesses. So I can say without fear of being called biased, the Cayenne GTS looks like a ugly morphed 911. It's that simple. Their design engineers said "looks like the 911 (in all its variants) is our biggest all time seller, and we want to make a SUV. What better way to do then make a 911 into a SUV."

BMW didn't do that with the x6. Sure they call it a coupe, but the bottom line is they melded a coupe into an entirely new vehicle and created a new market niche.
