Oil level not indicating

So I changed my oil and filter a few days ago and everything was ok with oil level. I forgot to put a magnetic oil drain plug so I went ahead and put the front wheels on a wheel ramp, removed the drain plug, plug my finger in there, and replaced the drain plug. Probably spilled maybe a 100 ml of oil or so. Restarted to check the oil level and no oil level readout and indicated "reading oil level". I figured the oil was not warm enough yet so I went ahead and went to the local gas station a mile away and came back. By this time the oil temp was at normal but still no oil level readout and the same indicator "reading oil level". Anybody had this happen before?

Same happens to mine.

Just this morning I went to check levels after a few road trips over the past couple weeks to see what my consumption has been like and got the reading status until about 20 mins into my commute (drove 10 mins to daycare then an additional 20ish to work and the levels showed probably half way to work)

Sometime it takes only 2 or 3 minutes, and others up to 20 minutes.

Megnetic stuff near sensors don't mix. I'd try to put the OEM drain bolt back on.

Change your alternator recently? The oil level sender and the alternator/voltage regulator/IBS systems for some reason are intertwined. If you recently changed the alternator or have a failing VR/IBS it can cause so much noise that the Oil level sensor is never reporting.

OR...

Could be a bad sensor.

OR...

Could be patience as everyone else suggested.

These are some lessons I have learned thus far in going down one rabbit hole after another on the gremlin hunt.

It rarely reads out immediately and especially when you just need to check it quick, it just says "Reading.... Reading...."
Normal Operation unfortunately.
