I think it would have looked better with the traditional 4 headlights as well...more BMW-ish that way.
The 2002 never had four headlights. How appropriate would it be for a 2002 hommage to have four headlights? Not very.

Sure - but it didn't have 19/20' wheels either...or a DCT....or quad exhaust pipes...etc.

My main point is that the headlight design doesn't shout BMW. Similar to the i8, just seems weird not to incorporate that basic design principal

If you can't see the difference between wheel size and headlight layout, then I don't know what to tell you.

Four-headlights is not a "basic design principle" of all BMWs, it is an attribute of BMW models of a certain era and designation. This is a 2002 hommage, which never had four headlights. If it had four headlights, it would completely ruin any link to the 2002 design.

Who pissed in your Post Toasties?

Ok man, whatever you say - it's such an honor to meet THE definitive BMW design authority, and on a forum at that!

I'm curious what makes you think someone pissed in my cereal? Do you always react this way when someone points out that you're wrong?

True story ...
Just as a 6 cylinder motor isn't a BMW " basic design principle ".

Pretty cool to see Auberlen's name on that E36 M3. He's been a fixture in BMW motorsport for ages.

Also, anyone else catch Sam Smith's name on the Alpina 2002ti touring car? I'm pretty sure that's the car he drove at Rolex Monterey a couple of years back. Sam Smith writes for Road & Track, and man, his writing is a very compelling reason to get a subscription. I think he might be the only guy on the planet that gets to drive more cool cars than Chris Harris.

Here's an interview with him about the experience of driving that 2002ti at Laguna Seca. Based on the tone, I'm pretty sure he wrote the answers and the questions.

Sam Smith flogs an Alpina 2002ti at Laguna Seca
Like drinking an entire pot of coffee and then hot-footing the world's tiniest Camaro in the rain.

Excerpt:

Quote:
Q: Why with the fast hands and the arms all over the place? Are you an idiot?

SS: Well, the car was loose. Like, loose on turn-in, loose under power, loose if you lift, loose over bumps. Oversteer. Slides. And wonderful. You commit the thing, it slides. You lift, it slides. You toe into the throttle with load on, it slides. This particular car was a little stiffer and lower than it ran in period, and probably a little down on grip. The sway bars were cranked up. It slides, you have to catch it. You could calm the car down a little with some suspension changes, and make it work better on modern-style tires, but it wouldn't be as much fun.
Very much Sam Smith self-deprecating humor. The guy is way more humble than he has any business being. He also .

So yeah, I've got a bad man-crush on Sam Smith. Shut it!

I thought it was small until I saw the photos of it parked next to the 2002... Nonetheless, I really dig it. But I am a bit biased on the paint scheme. Are they making this a production car or not? Whats the story? Ive been out of the loop for some time.
