Ordered! X6 to X5... what are the build timelines like?
So,
I traded my '09 X6 35 for a '12 X5 50. I've gone a little crazy with options (as has my CA, as I've changed my mind several times!) Went in the end with: - Sparkling Bronze w/Oyster and Bamboo (LOVE the oyster and bamboo - 2 years in my X6 and still looked decent!) - Cold Weather - Premium - Sport with 20s (like the M sport, but not giving up my heated wheel!) - Adaptive drive (always thought this did nothing in me X6 until I tried an X5 without and an X5 with....) - Technology (looking forward to backup camera coming up the same decade as I shift into reverse!) - Nappa dash (couldn't find many pics of this, but have seen other cars with it and it looks stunning!) - Running boards - Apps I've already traded the X6, so I'm now driving in the traffic and rain in my E46 M3 convertible (NOT fun). My car is due to be built week 22 at the moment - website still shows "order placed" and phone status is "no production date". I loved my X6, but I'm ready for a little more practicality with the X5 (rear wiper, ability to have friends over 5'9" sit in the back, take more than 2 pairs of skis anywhere, etc etc). What have people's timelines been like from "estimated production week" to "actual production" and then delivery? Last time I ordered a factory build was an 07 335, and the wait nearly killed me. Argh! Impatience! -Alistair |

Mine started production on 3/15 finished on 3/22 and was in my hands on 3/28 and I live in NJ. I was orginally scheduled for 3/22 build week and started a week earlier.

Mine? No - it'll be a 2012. 2012 models started production in April.

It took less than 3 weeks from order to delivery for our 2012 X5. We picked it up last week. I could have taken delivery earlier in the week but did not have time, so technically, it was less than 3 weeks.

Wow - some of these are turning up fast!
@AlexGP - did your dealer give you an estimated production week? They should know that based on their allocation.... |

I wasn't given the estimated production week yet, will ask tomorrow and let you know. I agree, the above guys got them fast. During negotiations, my sales person stated 4-6 weeks from Order...

How long did you guys sit at Status 112? ("Scheduled for Production")
Mine changed from 111 to 112 on Friday some time, but scheduled for build according to dealer last week of May. Wait is killing me! |

So the dealer ordered my X5 SAV on Saturday April 30th and I am told today that the car is already built and painted (and no additions/deletions to the order are possible of course). On MyBMW, I see it as "in production" and the dealer states that the car "should be here in a couple of weeks", which is quite faster than expected. The irony is that, over the past few days, I have received SO much praise for my E53 that I am almost having buyer's remorse! I just hope the new one gives me as much problems as the current one (in 10 years): NONE.

I too just ordered mine on Saturday, picked X5 50 over the M....I did not go with Technology package, that one gives you side cameras which I could care less for, I went for Premiem package and everything else including Nappa.
When do I get a status email? I only have my sales order from the dealership... |

OK, so now the dealer just told me the car is at the dealership and I can pick it up on Saturday. FYI, ordered on April 30, ie, 2 weeks ago. Again, seems a little too fast for me, but so be it! BTW, it is a 2012 SAV 3.5 Sapphire, Aluminum, Running Boards, Multicountour, Space Saver Spare.

Car delivered today! Pics coming soon. I ended up being suckered into buying the tire/wheel insurance (5 years for the price of 3 - $ 1350), only because I was guaranteed that it is for ANY tire that will be on the car (ie, even snow tires or future all-seasons that I plan to install after the summer performance wear out)....noting that my model is the Sports Activity. The car looks like a beast!

I ordered my X5 on 4/19 and it took a fuul week for it to get pulled into production.
I picked it up this past Thursday 5/12. Looking at the time frame now, it was a pretty quick turnaround time- but it felt like a eternity! |
