Extended warranty for X5M...

Any one here do the extended warranty for the X5M? My warranty is about to expire and I had a few questions.

1) What is a good price for the extended warranty?
2) Do you have to purchase the warranty from the dealership that normally services you (I intend to stay at my current location.)
3) If not (to #2), anyone know of a cheap place to get an extended warranty?

Thanks in advance.

I went with the oem extended warranty. Never know when a third party could go under. I had API on my e46 M3 and they went under while I was still in contract. Luckily the dealership honored it since they sold the coverage. My X5M is covered until 2019/100,000 miles. Well worth it imo if you plan on keeping her.

MSRP for the X5M and X6M (along with M3, M5 and M6) are as follows:

Gold:
60/100,000 - $4,480
72/100,000 - $5,350
84/70,000 - $5,450
84/100,000 - $6,600

Platinum:
60/100,000 - $4,530
72/100,000 - $5,990
84/70,000 - $6,120
84/100,000 - $7,430

Best option is to call around to whatever US dealership you fancy. These can be bought over the phone, so just see who offers you the best deal and get after it.

I have the platinum extended coverage on my '10 X5M. I would not have kept it without having it, and 1 transfer case later, 2 rear axle seals, sway bar end links etc., I'm sure glad I had it. I doubt that there will be any significant difference in price between dealers, but it cant hurt to shop around...and no, you do not need to purchase it from the dealer that services the car.

What's the main difference between gold and platinum coverage?

Also, are those months and miles added after the factory warranty expires?

CPO only covers parts if they are defective. Esentially its a scam and not worth buying a CPO if you can find one without the CPO and add the extended coverage. The main difference between the gold and platinum is that the platinum covers the i-drive unit. The mileage and time is from the in-service date.

Thanks for the helpful info and suggestions fellas. They will be taken into consideration as I plan ahead. I am still in love with this monster. I only have 16k miles and intend to keep it for the foreseeable future.

You may wish to call Pacific BMW in Glendale CA and ask for the Finance Manager - Daniel someone. Allegedly they offer the best pricing.

No, but you can't get one at the moment anyway.

Yea I noticed that. Looks like they're doing some updates.

The question was more towards people that have purchased/ used this warranty.

So you don't have to purchase this until your existing warranty expires? Or do you have to purchase at point of sale?

You can purchase them from any BMW dealer, as long as the vehicle is still under the original manufacturers warranty (50k miles).

Great thread with lots of useful info. Mine is scheduled to expire Nov 2015. Was wondering what people did once the warranty was expiring. The M is a beast...Love it. Good for snow and winter driving too with right tires. Might still trade it in next year..not sure. But there is no good alternative out there in the same class....

Sorry mate, for some reason I didn't receive a notification that you responded to my post. Yes, they are BMW programs. I have a document that shows all vehicles and what the MSRP prices are for warranty. And yes, you have until your standard warranty expires to purchase this. Once your car is past that, you cannot.

Jeff Steel from Passport BMW gave me a price for my X5 that was the best initial offer over all other dealers. He was recommended on a number of other forums, which is how I found him. My local dealer would do MSRP and no less.

There was another dealer in SoCal that was also recommended, but they seemed to be asking users to mail in their key's to verify mileage as of late.

Shop around, there is a wide price disparity...
