How to unlock GPS safety mode ?

This really drives me nuts, while driving, my passenger cannot operate the gps unless i stop, it's really annoying.
I understand it's a safety feature but I haven't encountered this on other car brands I have driven.
Is there a way to unlock this feature?
Need help.
Thanks

I have an X5 35i E70
I used to have an M3 and it has the same feature, as soon as I start driving, I can't access the gps and make changes unless I stop.

Thats weird because I never had that issue, I know other brands have that safety feature but not BMW at least not here in US.

That must be a country specific issue that the OP is encountering since we don't have that issue or feature in Europe and Americas.

I didn't have this issue with a European X5, nor my US X5. Must be just in China.

A 2014 3-series loaner prevented me from configuring Bluetooth while driving. No such prevention in 2011 X5. This may creep into Navigation soon..

I wonder if it's as simple as setting buried in a menu?

Or the alternative, get your codes reprogrammed. Not sure in your region, but in the US, there are a handful of remote folks that will mail you a cable and some software to change settings such as this. You return the cable when done, and get a deposit back.

At this point am assuming it might be a region specific thing, people drive so badly here in china that they have to lock the gps while driving otherwise there will be even more accidents than the millions we already have.
I'm going to talk to bmw and see if they can unlock it for me.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Cheers

You can order this DVD unlock software and it will unlock all the annoying features.

Now my passengers can watch DVD while the car is in motion, and no more annoying "confirm" when you first start the car, and I can enter address while car is moving.

Both, when you place an order you can make that request.

I checked Bimmerguru, who offer this kind of software, but $170, that's a bit steep just to unlock dvd mode and gps safety mode........

However, perhaps there are other features you want unlocked with it?

Try a dealer willing to do it, and report that price

Learn how to code your car or pay someone to do it remotely.
This way you can unlock DVD while driving and your GPS Safety Mode quite easily after investing $20 in a ODB2-Cable.

Here in Canada the 2014 loaner cars must be in park to use the GPS.
