courtesy" wash that resulting in paint scuffs and scratches

Today I took my X5 for its first ever service. After the service the dealership did a "courtesy" wash that resulted in few paint scuffs and scratches.

The first ever on my car. I did try a commercial scratch remover polish, but it just fades them, is there anyway I can get rid of them.

Your best bet would be a professional detailer who could do some paint correction for you.

Not to monday morning QB you but never let a dealer wash your car.....but you know that now.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a Cayman and took it to the dealer (winner of many cust service awards, etc....yeah right...) because there was a very small scratch on the fender. "No problem, we can get that out, drive it back to the detail shop". So the salesman and I go back there and watch numb nuts get his buffer out and burn all the way through the paint right in front of me and the salesman...black car. Salesman looks at me and says "I don't know what to say other than this will be corrected and I will have a loaner 911 for you in a few minutes...."

My point is as a rule of thumb, you know more about cleaning cars correctly than most dealers. If you do your research, you will have better luck with independant professional detailers.

Sorry about the car and good luck.

Did you let your dealership know they scratch your car? Let them pay for it!!

This. Same thing happened to me, and the dealer paid for the correction.

I should add to my original post...You need to have a GOOD DETAILER work on it. I have started doing all my own work since all the local guys we have are very poor and make many things worse. You should be able to find some good guys in Pittsburgh.

Get a sheet of paper and write DO NOT WASH on it and leave it in an obvious place in your car.

It's the only thing that works when you go in for service and make sure to tell your service advisor.

I have tried to insist on no wash when I am in for service and the 'stealership' always washes it anyway. I think it is because under warranty they charge money back to BMW for a detailing. I know the high school drop out porter does such a quality job at washing. I have also had it where they add too much air in my tires.

Never ever ever let anyone wash your car. You should see how the guy at the dealership dry your car after a wash and you will know why you have swirl marks.
