anyone have rust on activity boards?

I thought my aluminum activity boards were just dirty so when I went to give them a good scrub I noticed a whole bunch of rust "pits" all over the top surface. Is this normal after a few years (2007 X5)? Any chance it would be covered under the factory warranty? Thanks.

I will try the clay bar, sounds like a good idea. I tried the warranty route and was denied!

X5 just came back from the dealer and they denied the rust on warranty. Worth a shot anyway. I will try the clay bar in the next while.
