R8Fan's 2013 X5M (MCB)

I have been way too lazy with posting a thread of this type, here it is finally. This is a canadian speced car with a build date of mid June 2013, it's within the last 30 of the NA spec X5M that rolled off the production line, delivered to me on Nov 2013 with just 31 kms on the ODO

2013 X5M Monte Carlo Blue with Extended Black Merino Leather
- Premium Package
- LED headlight
- Rear seat DVD (I hate this, want to get rid of it)

Mod list:
- Akrapovic Titanium Evolution with Titanium tips
- Gintani Catless Downpipes
- Velos stage 2+ tune (Huge thanks for the support from Omar@Velos)
- H&R 1.2 lowering kit
- IND body colored front and rear reflector, body color side marker with dark tint; painted keyhole cover
- LED interior lighting, BMW OEM dome bulbs with Trinity Auto Sport full replacement cluster
- LED reverse bulb
- Coding by Alex@Alpine
- Window tint, 27% front and top 7' of windshield, 45% layer over top of OEM privacy glass on all rear windows
- Gloss black wrapped front grill and matte black wrapped rear valance
- WeatherTech license plate cover (best plate cover ever, it seals the edges of the plate so it never gets dirty)
- Findway floormats (had weathertech floor liners, but it doesn't have the coverage of the Findway, these findway floormats are cheap and very good)
- Paint protection film, on many places but always not enough

Current Wheels:
- PUR RS01 22x10.5 & 22x12 in Manaco Gold on Pirelli Scorpion Zero 295/335
- Ace Convex 20x10 +35 in matte silver on Nokian Hakka 8 275/40/20 with Motorsport Tech 30mm spacer with inner hub of 72.6 and outter hub of 74.1 (Special thanks to Eric@Nitrous Garage)
- OEM 299M with OEM Bridgestone with H&R spacers 15/25mm

Past Wheels:
- HRE 643R
- Style 239 in ferric grey

Defense Gear (most important of all)
- AntiLaser Priority parking sensors Quad heads (2 front and 2 rear), hifi control set
- Escort Passport Max detector
- Blackvue DR550 front and rear dashcam with power-magic pro

Future Mods that are sitting in the garage
- K&N intake air filters
- H&R 2" Lowering kit (considering switching to the 2" drop)
- Dinan bumpstops (on order, to be paired with the 2" lowering kit)

Mods that I potentially want but can't justify right now
- IND painted badges and BMW roundel
- Euro headlight switch (for enabling rear fogs)
- Powerdome Hood
- KW V3 (once they figure out how to make a EDC emulator module that doesn't require cutting and splicing the wire)
- Carbon front lip

Here are some pics

299M

After H&R 1.2' Lowering kit

Attended a local standing half mile event the past weekend, all the runs were done with launch control and the car was in MDM with EDC off, forgot to play around more with the settings and try to fold in the mirrors. The car is very consistent on it's runs 212kph with passanger and AC on at 19C, 214 with passanger and AC off, 216 without passanger and AC.

I'm really impressed with how well and consistently the car runs and how everyone is suprised that me trolling in an SUV is outrunning some many and keeping up with most high powered cars. This is only with catless, full exhaust, and tune, I didn't even put the intake filters in yet, huge credit to Omar@Velos for a good tune that can go out and kick ass

PS: DashCam speed is not accurate

410WHP Aristo

Race 1:

Race 2:

Epic Arial Footage

Crazy 800+WHP CTS-V

Grand Cherokee SRT8, stock fresh off the showroom with only 3000+kms on the ODO. Good on the owner for bring it out and running it, this was his first run, seems to be having issues shifting from second to third.

Solo run

Dashboard view

The other CTS-V, 610whp, has cams, intake, exhaust, tune, and probably more. It's loud

Corvette ZR1, don't think it's modified, the owner only had it for a week and not sure if anything has been done to it. (PS: dashcam speed is not accurate, ZR1 overtook me at over 150kph which is just under 100mph)

Nicely modified mustang gt with cams, intake, exhaust, and tune

Race 1:

Race 2:

Corvette Z06, full bolt-on, intake, headers, exhuast, and tune. Owner said it's 590HP. This was really close, I beat it by 3/4 of a car length at the half mile marker, but it was catching up fast on the top end, I trapped 216kph while the Z06 did 236kph

Thanks bud I really like it, the Akra didn't sound very special when I first got it since it was only paired with a tune and no DP, but once the DP were on it sounds amazing. But the most impressive part is how the Akra manages to quite down when the exhaust valves are close and just driving around normally, for a catless car it barely sounds any louder than stock just driving around lightly everyday

Also I'm a sucker for anything with good build quality and in that terms nothing beats the Akra, everything on it is so perfect. When i first held the mid pipe or the front pipe it was so light that i thought i was going to break it. The Gintani downpipe isn't as special as titanium Akra, but credit is due, the fitment for everything is good, the only part that was slightly off was the post cat O2 sensors but still no trimming of the heat-shield was needed, the O2 sensor just sits right against the edge of the hole for the sensor instead of dead center.

Has your dealership indicated anything about the warranty on anything engine-related being voided now that you added downpipes?

Love the truck, nicely done. Question regarding the OEM 239s. Did you have the hub adapters and spacers on at that point? The stance looks perfect to me, would love to achieve that same stance on mine.

Also, more info on those custom hub adapter spacers? I need a set as well!

By the way, i got a kw v3 no edc emulator, just coded the edc out. No problems there, no cutting.

Thanks, I was always set on MCB so after deciding on buying a new one instead of trying to find a good used one, I searched entire western canada for it, this car actually came from Brian Jessel in Vancouver, good thing my parents lives in Vancouver so they were able to go check out the car for me.

In my opinion for the warranty to be void the issue has to be contributed to the part in question. Example, if a rear O2 sensor failed and you want to warranty it, they might reject it saying that unacceptable modification has been done which caused the failure. However if you have an issue with other parts like in my case, the crank case breather hoses had a crack in them and was leaking, they have no issues warrantying it.

The main thing that the dealer would cause voiding warranty is not usually the hardware that has been put on the car, its the software, if there are major issues such has blown engine, dealers can blame it on the fact that the car has been tuned.

Last note is, if getting a DP, get a good set with OEM fitment so you can put the heatshield back on to cover everything up nicely, most techs won't bother verifying if you got DP or not since they have to remove the heatshield which is a lot of annoying work. And if you have a exhaust of some type, they will simply think it's the exhaust system making the extra noise, and no one can reasonable attribute any engine related issue with an aftermarket exhaust systems.

Hey, yes i do have hub adapters on the rear, just a simple metal 72.56 to 74.1mm ring. In the photos, I had the set on the car with H&R 15/25mm spacers front and rear, just like how i run my stock 299M, it works really well and gives perfect fitment.

The custom spacer is done by these guys, I think their stuff is decent, but I wouldn't say they are H&R quality. If you look at H&R DRA series spacers, they have specific sleeves to accept each lug bolt even tho the spacers are made out of aluminium and the aluminium itself is even anodized. These guys simply make the spacer in a CNC out of a billet aluminium which is cut each time for machining. The edges aren't finished perfectly and the aluminium used isn't quite as hard as the H&R once.

Really?? I actually asked a shop locally that does a lot of work with BMWs at the possibility of coding out edc and they told me that they have tried and done it, but the car loses the M button functionality on the steering wheel so I didn't bother asking more people as I wasn't planning on getting KWs anytime soon.

Can you please let me know how this is done and who is the coder that is able to do this? also is this on a M model? Am i correct in assuming that you simply disconnected the shock from the plugs and left them there without any other physical work done to it?

Thanks for the info and quick reply... I think I'll stick with standard hub rings and the H&R spacers. I've already got the 15s up front, was going to go 20s in the back, but now you've got me thinking 25s. Either way, I have to get my hands on the H&R 1.2" kit. You don't by chance want to sell yours when you swap to the 2" kit or the KWs do you? I'd love to take the setup off your hands if you're going to part with it. Let me know! And again, great looking truck!

No worries, I say go for 25mm, H&R doesn't make a DRA spacer for our sizes on 20mm. I like the DRA design a lot more.

Sorry but sadly the H&R that would be coming off of my car has been spoken for already by a friend with a X6M who wants to go lower than his current Dinan kit, if you want the Dinan let me know and I will talk to him or if he doesn't end up taking mine, I can let you know.

Yes, it's an M model, the M button is still working. Just disconnect the shock and no more work done. The only fault is an error code in the memory when you read out the faultcodes, something like "communication error edc", but nothing more, no light on or msg in the idrive.

i should ask the guy who did it what he exactly did, it was a privat guy, friend of the preowner..

will look what i can do..

Bummer. I was pretty set on Dinan, but so many people say they can barely see a difference from stock. I definitely want a little more than that, but not much, so looking for the H&R 1.2" kit. I have the same Style 239 wheels as you and I think your stance is perfect on those wheels... As for the spacers, I have to look at them again, I don't recall the differences between the Trak+, DRA, etc etc...

Anyway, let me know if things change with that H&R kit. I'll have money in your hands ASAP.

Oh i c, so can the code be cleared or will it be there permanently? Also is there any EDC fault codes that display on the dash and iDrive systemyou manually check all systems. Look forward to knowing more about it.

Yes the drop on the Dinan kit is not very noticeable. As for the spacers, I would be almost inclined to say that you can go a few mm wider in the front if you want a more aggressive look. The difference is Trak+ uses extended log bolts, where as DRA uses a set of bolts that is used to bolt the spacer on the hub and you can use the OEM set to bolt the wheels on to the spacers. I prefer this as I'm not a big fan of super long lug bolts and you get to keep the wheel locks if you have any
