2007 X5 4.8I = 110K Miles

First time BMW owner of a used 2007 X5 4.8i with a 110,000 miles. During the drive home last (1.5 hours) I encountered the following difficulties/warning etc.. Can someone shed a little light on each one regarding major or minor repair etc...

- iDrive toggle (center console next to stick shift) is not functioning correctly. Unable to enter the settings section.

- Low batter indicator light illuminated last night when pulling into my drive way.

- Service triangle displayed on communication console and cluster panel

- Steering unstable/unbalance command came on this morning requiring my to pull over and turn off engine.

Thanking you in advance;

RobertsLSU

All of those, or none, could be related to a bad battery...there is no way of telling but it's the first place I'd start...

If the car sat for a while I would continue to drive it daily for about 2 weeks before swapping out the battery. I experienced similar issues with my E60 5 series that sat for about a month without being daily driven.

Congrats on the purchase. I also have an '07 4.8. I hope you set away a couple grand for repairs, though. I would look at doing the coolant pipe (and the the rest of the cooling system while you're at it) ASAP. I'm about $3,500 into my 4.8 X5 I bought with 75k miles. As a BMW enthusiast though, I'm not surprised or upset. It's part of the gig. Other preventive repairs (fairly cheap too) to consider are: spark plugs, CCV breather diaphragms, fluids (diffs, t-case, trans, p/s).
