Bye bye E90, Hello E70!

My first SUV. Had a 2010 335i (lovely thing: MSport, 6 speed) but my son just turned 2 and the wife also has a 3-series (an F30); the car seat is a tough squeeze in either of them but worse in the E90.

After adding in all our "stuff" on this last visit to grandma's for Christmas it became painfully clear we needed a bigger car.

So... sadly... bye bye beloved 335i. Hello E70 X5! Picked up a glacier silver [edit: Titanium Silver] 2013 X5 xDrive 35i... 35k on the odo, not too much in add on packages but all I care about is nav (which I'm pretty sure was standard on everything), XM and parking sensors — all of which I got. It also has heated seats and the ginormous pano moonroof, which is very nice. And my E90 was the *last* year you couldn't stream audio over bluetooth, so that fix is a big improvement for me.

Price was decent, a good bit under $30k + they gave me a strong offer on my trade, and because I went from one CPO to another BMW Finance let me get in at 1.9%. Never knew about that deal!

My son lost his mind ("TRUCK! DADDY NEW TRUCK! COOL! HAPPY!"). That was a no-filter version of how I felt, pretty much so... the apple doesn't fall far from the bimmer fanboy I guess.

Pretty stoked! She's in for a tint right now. Will do H&R sport springs, running boards... maybe if I ever prioritize saving the cash for it, I'll go for some nice big wheels and tires.

The N55 is delightful, the car doesn't feel underpowered or heavy at all. I walked into the dealership expecting to lease a brand new X5 but I drove the E70 first and then the new one — back to back. BLECH. Love the slick enhanced iDrive and interior of the new car, am sure my wife would've appreciated the over-assisted steering (stick to your F30, woman), but MAN DOES THE RIDE STINK on the new model. Soft, floaty, bouncy. The E70 feels like a Bimmer. It became a no brainer at that point, and I saved myself a bundle of money

We've been back in SoCal for 6 years, and have never driven up to the mountains. Tomorrow: Big Bear Lake. Snow. It's time.

Right on! Congratulations...the E70 will be a much better vehicle for the family than a 3 series. I've gone thru a few 3 series now as a 2nd vehicle, love them, but they aren't the best for a primary family vehicle if you have kids.

Also, color is Titanium Silver on the E70, I believe it went to Glacier on the current F15 model.

Your observations of the new F15, I read that a lot, but I haven't driven one. Most of the guys on the F15 forum say you gotta at least get the $900 Adaptive Suspension option, and in a perfect world the Dynamic Handling Package which is several thousand I believe.

Any pics?

Ok Titanium Silver I guess! Love the color. My dad was shocked I broke my decade-plus streak of black cars.

Anything I should keep in mind re: H&R Sport Springs vs. CPO warranty? Any known issues with the springs?

Congrats! I'm with you on preferring the E70/71 to F15/16. The ride does suck. It's way to soft, cushy, floaty even in sport. Steering is to0 loose. And it isn't close in handling. I had my '15 for 4 months and hated every day of it. Traded it in for the ///M. While it is far better, I still miss my '13 every day.

Congrats on the E70 I completely agree on the space versus the E90 which I had an E90 335i before I went back to a bimmer, bought a range rover between, and it's awesome. My neighbor just bought the 2017 F15 and even though the HUD looks nice and what not the handling sucks IMO compared to the E70s.

On another note, great looking E70, if you can provide more feedback on the spring install please do share. The more the better because we all know wheel gap sucks! haha

The wheels are growing on me, and I like the ride right now... so, especially if I drop it with H&R springs, I think maybe I'll skip the $2k-$3k expense of going to 20s.

Maybe give it a little time? I used to think my 20's were huge, now they look small to me

Sounds like a good plan, I'm currently running a staggered 22" set up right now. I feel I need to do the H&R spring to drop it and it'll sit nicely

Good looking e70. I just picked up a 2013 35d and joined the forum to possibly get answers for questions I may have. I also had an 11' 335i just like yours.

Be sure to check out the diesel subform for info specific to that motor. http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=377

Im almost in the same position as you. I'm looking at getting rid of my E90 335i in order to get an E70 . We used to have one and stupidly got rid of it. Now since my wife has an F30 and my e46 is in the garage, another E70 would be nice. If anyone has one to sell hit me up. I'll be watching the classifieds too. Or if anyone is interested in my E90, HMU.
