Is it too late to buy the X6?
Having two options: the new 2013 335i xDrive or a BMW X6 40d with Performance Package. It's clear that the two are totally different - the 3 series is small but handles great and is quicker, but the X6 is more majestic, more practical and bigger.
I like the appearance of the X6 better (the 3 series front still looks a bit odd to me even though it's slowly growing on me) but the 3 series is a brand new model and it will be new for at least 6 more years. The X6 had a facelift in 2012 so when do you think the new model come out? It would suck to buy an expensive car just to see it become an old model soon. |

Not to mention that there are 3-series everywhere, but not as many X6 on the street.
For me, I just don't like driving a car where you can see in every 2 blocks (at least this is what's happening in Vancouver). Something for you to also consider. |

Okay, well I think it's pointless for me to buy a 60 000 dollar car which will turn into an old model in 20 months or so. The best replacement would probably be the new Cayenne, but I'm not too fond of it. The previous Cayenne was badass. Too bad they've gone soft.

335i - $45K MSRP X6 5.0i - $70K MSRP (so a diesel version would be around $77K, right?) Almost twice the price, right? |

Go for it!
I believe I was told the x6 will have a brand new facelift in 2016. I got mine from scratch to delivery the 2013 and lovin' it. There's this inside you that you need it and I got it! Can't lie but the attention I get is priceless!

It is a car, not a life choice. If you buy one now, you get 3 years before the new one is out. Life's too short to sweat what's going to happen in three years. You might decide you like the "old" car.
I have the previous generation SLK AMG (gasp). I don't care for the new one and my 2008 suits me just fine. If I wanted a new one, I could get it, but, the F1 inspired front end "works" for me. |

It is a catch 22. The new X6 will be out in 2014 (probably) but do you want a first year BMW? So you have to wait until 2015 (or if you are smart 2016/2017 for the LCI).
I personally plan on replacing my X6 with a 335xi - as soon as it has an LCI (oh yea, and my lease is up).

OP: Back on topic, I agree if you like the X6, get the X6. When did the LCI come out in where you live? I ask because you mentioned an X6 40d which is not available in the US. Here, the X6 LCI only came in April 2012 as a 2013 model; I don't imagine a new version stateside before 2015 as a 2016 model. I understand (correct me if I am wrong) that model years aren't used pretty much anywhere except North America? That notwithstanding, I'd think the model life cycle is the same across the board. I think you have more than 20 months before you see a new X6 generation on the streets, wherever you are located. |

Due to my dealer's info, the brand new x6 will be out no earlier than 2015 as the 2016 model. Since X6 lacks of competition in the market, x6's first life cycle will be 8 years. So, I think you can drive the x6 for at least 3 years without further version of it.
With comparing with the 3er, for me, I won't even consider to buy a 3er here in Toronto. You can see the 3er(even the brand new one) anywhere along the road. It's kinda more than the buses. |

I am really not sure what to do, my plan was to wait for the new model of the X5 and get it as soon as it is out. Heard stories never to get a car that has just been released, but am still thinking that most likely I will be fine. An idea of getting another X6 is fun because I would get certain extras that were not available, but it is still esssentially the same car (they have not changed much because they did not have to). New X5 should be a brand vehicle and a whole new experience, then again what if I dont like it. The X6 really drives a lot better than the current X5 and is a totally different car... Thoughts ideas? Thanks!

I think that the X4 may be pretty cool, but I am pretty attached to my gadgets. I think what I want is: backup camera, iDrive (to run my ipod in style, of course), nav, HUD, soft close doors (THAT won't happen, but it doesn't take long to forget how to close doors. I just love 'em ), and a steering wheel that gets out of my way (that probably won't happen either). I'd say adaptive drive too, but that is probably so far off the table that its on a table in my neighbor's house. |

Anyone here actually have a clue as to what ZX Spectrum is related too? I am a computer guy and the only thing I can find is some esoteric reference to color spectrum used for computers.Different? Sure. Radical? Nope, not even close! Last edited by ndabunka; 11-12-2012 at 06:53 PM.. |

Finally, last but not least, you seem like a very positive and nice person and I appreciate your comments. And in the meantime, I hope you are enjoying your X5. |
