center headrest in rear seat. removal ?

I find it obstructive to my rear view.
Is it possible or has anyone removed the top of the center arm rear for the x5m ?

I’m surprised bmw even has it. Most others don’t have a center headrest in the rear. At least my m3 7 don’t.

Thanks

Slide it to the highest position... Locate the small hole on one of the poles... Use straight pick to push into hole and activate the release.... Pull up while doing so.

Good luck.

Couldn't find anything that helped on the E70 section of newtis. I'm assuming you need to pop the cup holders out and you might find some fasteners in there?

I cant seem to find the center arm rest for the non X5M other than the one pictured already with it integrated..hmm

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...0d&mg=52&sg=20

Non M have 52207171154
and M have 52207232952

With those with the Non M, so you can pull the head rest off of it (although it doesn't show that on real OEM) ?
anyone have pics of the 52207171154, non M version?

Mine has a 3rd row so it is completely different. But yes. I can take my center headrest out.

I found this picture though.

https://wolfautoparts.com/seat-armre...7-ps53133.html

Looks similar to my E60 which has instructions for removing the cup holders here.

Maybe give it a try and see if there is some hidden hardware if yours looks similar?

I wonder if removing the cup, will allow me to remove the headrest though.
Very surprised by this, its very big in your view of the rear.
Could be an ugly change but i will dig into it and see if i can remove it, or try to source a NON-M arm rest from a junk yard even.

It looks like they are separate pieces so I would imagine they're fastened together somehow..?
