BTW how are those blocked off intake CCV ports working out? Any issues with rough idling? I'm thinking that Sophisticated Redneck 's suggestion to add a pressure-adjustable check valve (set at ~-8psi) from both intake CCV ports and running it into the catch can might not be a bad idea. Worse case I could always adjust that check valve to almost entirely closed, and just back it off if I get rough idling issues.
I responded more in depth to your post in the CCV thread but blocking the lower Intake CCV tubes on the M shouldn't effect idle on the M as it doesn't use MAF sensors, the 50i remains to be seen if this is something that will throw it off, I will be finding out this weekend.

S63 has less of a problem than n63 when it comes to timing chains, and engine failure. Mostly due to more meticulous maintenance and oil changes. (7-8k oil change interval opposed to BMWs recommended 20k) 90% of people who have bought an x5 m used, most likely had a motor which the oil was changed every 20k. Or once a year. There’s a small amount of people who pay there own way to do $5-8k acceptable oil change service interval. Probably less than 10%. And those are the people who have engines that last 200k+.

So with all of that being said.

People that complain they bought a used s63 with problems. It’s not THEIR fault. Because BMW told them NOT to take care of it.

Great work. Excellent pictures and detail.

All that work; engine in, is an absolute nightmare. I would be replacing the oil pump with the updated version. ( unless you m already has it ) Would also do rod bearings, upper, and lower oil pan gaskets. All of the above is in the works for me.

As for the valve stem seal job. You saved yourself about $10,000 in labor performing that service yourself.

Where are you located?

How many miles on that bad boy

I’m still trying to figure out how to make all of this work possible on mine without a lift in my garage! Regarding the timing chains and guides, do you have to remove the valve train and disrupt the head gasket?

E70 X5m PVC Valve Replacement

Hey, wondering if you wouldn't mind giving me some advise.
I've tried replacing the two pvc valves on my 2012 X5m but cannot get to the two torx bolts under the intercooler pipes, that hold the rubber intakes to the turbos. Any suggestions? Do i need to remove the intercooler pipes that feed the turbos to get to these two bolts?

Appreciate any help

Use a long 1/4” extension with wobble end, and there is just enough space.
