Windshield replacement cost

Came out to the parking in which the SUV hasn't driven for several days and saw a crack (should have fixed the small chip but it was my to do list ).

This E70 has automatic rain sensing. Is that sensing built into the windshield or the mechanic of the wiper? We had a 2007 Lexus that costs $1200 years ago and was told it had built in rain sensing onto the windshield (don't know if there is such or a load of BS from the guy).

Not built into the windshield. It's a sensor on the rear view mirror mount. A new windshield should be around $4-500. Check with your insurance though. You might be able to get a new one out of them every couple years. Or maybe that's just a WA State thing?

One of the questions they'll ask you is "do you have rain-sensing wipers" and also "Do you have a head's-up display?" If you have a HUD, pay up.

Granted, it's been awhile, but I paid $382 for a windshield with rain-sensing wipers in late 2016. My 135i Convertible (with rain-sensing wipers) was $462 in late 2021.

$350-$500 in San Francisco Bay Area.
I had mine replaced in March 2023 and they used an aftermarket Fuyao glass. Stay away from this cheap glass.
It’s manufactured in China and chips very easily. It takes a while for the rain sensor to operate correctly. Make sure it’s centered and recalibrate if possible.
