The X6 has already gone up $5k. By then, it will be up $7k. Not sure the increased cost is worth the wait for a hard drive.

If I were to buy my X6 today, the sticker would be $72k vice the $67k it was.

Seriously! If you are a lot of people that will use the car and you also have had to learn new things... Well maybe than the idrive will be a little tricky the first ten min!

Had X5 before with the very old idrive (-05) Had no prob at all with it and it did work perfect all the time!
In my x6 with the later idrive some things is a bit nicer...but...
Im soooo glad that there is smart people at BMW that choose to not use a touch screen for example! God thoose screen's look like a mess after some McDonalds trips! And it for shure make an cheap trick impression... I mean who buy a car depending on the nav system (except people that cant or will not learn new things)?

Go for it buy the car! After a month driving this sweet thing you will call yourself a fool that didnt do it earlier and you will laugh every time you watch the idrive thing, and think...Im your master ;-)

Good Luck!

This goes to show how thoughtful BMW is with regards to technology introduction: I am sarcastic of course.

Wonder if the date is for all BMW or particular models.
It would be good to know what the real date is so folks waiting to buy X6 with new iDrive would know. Some pushed their 2008 X6 order out to 2009 because they heard it was going to be in the 2009 model X6. I think the 2009's are being delivered now , maybe a 2009 owner can tell us if it made the 2009 X6.

The 2009 X6 model started shipping at the beginning of November 2008 and does NOT include the new iDrive controller.

I talked to the sales manager at my dealer ship again yesterday and he told me that the March 2009 X6 production will still get the new iDrive controller. He also told me that he will ping BMW Germany again to make sure nothing has changed since he asked them just before the Xmas holidays.

As to the the BMW Blog website, I wouldn't go by it... just have a look at this post from September 2008...

http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/09/18/ex...he-new-idrive/

Straight from their article:

Thanks to Jimmy O., we can show some exclusive photos of the new iDrive system being featured in a BMW 550i. As we mentioned yesterday, to our surprise, BMW indeed decided to include the revamped and improved iDrive Navigation System in the 5 and 6 Series as well, contrary to the last months reports where we were lead to believe that only the 1,3 and 7 Series will see the iDrive revision.

So today they tell you one thing and the next they tell you the opposite...

I'd rather rely on people that I talk to face to face!

Thanks xdrive would hate for you have to push your order out another year.

I am with you. I don't think I buy this new blog as everything I have heard seems to make me believe it will be in March but you never know until they start making them and nothing official has come from BMW.

I have been waiting for firm information on this and about the M edition of the X6.

Why all the top secrecy from BMW about these items? Doesn't it make good sense to inform your potential/return customers of what your plans are for the future?

Intel is happy to produce a roadmap of future chips and you can generally know if it is worth it to you to wait or not for the next upgrade. BMW should learn from this.

If you read the top, there were two updates after the articles was posted. From what i can tell, they initially thought that it will have both the new iDrive controller along with the hard drive based system, but it turned out a couple hours later than only the new controller was included.

There is another update to the new iDrive coming out in 2011, are you going to wait for that one or the current new one?

A ton of features are planned and iDrive will change dramatically over the next 5 years. The first gen of the new system with the hard drive is actually a few years old now so BMW has to catch up with MB, Lexus and Audi.

I guess therin lies the question..... It is one thing to put the new iDrive controller in the car (like the new E61 5 series), it is another to know if it is conected to the 2nd generation iDrive. I just dropped my 35i in to the dealer to get the power problem to the door controls sorted out and got another E61 as a loaner. This one is a brand new (11 miles on the clock) 528i which has the new controller but still the old iDrive. The 2009 X6 may be getting the new controller, but not necessarily the new iDrive to go with it...

Just a thought!

Cheers, Anteater
