X6 with new i Drive

Talked to dealership in Texas.....He will check on availability...he believes it will be sooner that March 09 only becuase they have already recieved a 3 series with the new i drive and they were playing with it...Big advancement in many ways including screen resolution and internet connectivity......

I think I will wait....I cannot order a 2009 now and have this new i drive come out a 2-3 onths later.....

any other info on that ?

I think folks are putting to much weight into the new iDrive. It is evolutionary not revolutionary.

It will take BMW several years to perfect the new one with lots of updates.

+1 agree . didn't buy the X6 because of what iDrive it came with, didn't even look at it. From what I've seen has pretty new interface but doesn't make the car go any faster.

I spoke with the manager at a local authorized BMW dealership regarding the new iDrive system for the X6. He said that he inquired about this issue with someone at BMW headquarters and confirmed that the new iDrive will be available starting from March 09 production.

No word regarding the M model, or at least an M Sport Package.

Intrestingly, he said that April 09 production will be considered a 2010 model. Indeed if that's true, then it's worth the wait for someone who's not in a hurry. You'll get the new iDrive, plus a 2010 model way early.

Google is being added to iDrive. I am not sure full web browsing is in there, but they are starting with a basis google browser.

Also, you will be able to configure your car via a home computer and send the data to the car. This will be nice since when you take you car in and the dealer updates the software you lose a lot of settings. It would be nice to send your profile to the car and be done with it.

One word though. BUGS!. But I am sure it will work well after a couple years of customer feedback.

So let me get this straight , in about 8 months after getting my 08 (that was after waiting 5 months) BMW will be releasing an 2010 model. I know some lawyers that are going to be very happy. I think it might be a good idea for BMW to have a talk with their dealers since they are effectively agents for BMW.
I suspect this is just pr rumor like the high MPG.

Shoot, by then the 2011's should be out.

I plan on holding out for a 2012 model in July 2009.

Guys ... I'm just trying to help out and share some information I received and not spread out rumors, so no need to be sarcastic...First, let me clearify that I'm not based in USA, I'm in Kuwait. So the strategy might differ in the Gulf Region compare to the US. As far as April 09 Production, we don't receive them until July 09. The information that the manager got is straight from Germany, so I'm sure he's not making that up. My initial inquiry was about the new iDrive implementation in X6, which he said will be available starting from March 09 production.

Well you do have to admit the logic in your original post makes one wonder what's being smoked at your dealer. Using this logic there would be NO 09 model , with folks on this forum waiting for delivery of the 09 model they ordered. And for the record I'm hardly ever sarcastic (well intentionally anyway) usually accused of being too blunt.

forums are social arenas were folks express opinions on a post,
I never take these as personal (even when sometimes they are meant that way) and just mark it down to a difference of opinion. I believe that you are, in good faith trying to share information.

Well....not so unlikely...

in April of 2006, I took delivery of a 2007 550i.....

Therefore, an X6 as a 2010 MY in April 2009 is totally possible...especially if the new Idrive comes along with it.

Just curious - have you actually tried the new iDrive? FRom my experience it was definitely more than "evolutionary".

BMW has done it before several times. E90 was released in Spring. The 2007 E60 model had a short life when 2008 model was out in March-April 2007.

I agree...the interface is completely different....

I did use the voice comand a lot to call people and it worked decently well (2007 M5)...Much better than the Range Rover I drive now..! (never use it)

Apparently the voice comand has been improved...along with the interface graphics, menus, screen resolution and google.....

I have never seen it but it does sound like substantial departure from currrent...The wait is worth it to me when buying a $78K car.....

It all comes down to how much you use it.....I use it quite a bit...(Nav, phone dial up, i pod)

The biggest change that I heard about (and saw some pictures somewhere) was new UI. As far as voice commands and google have that now with my old X6, what other new features are there ?

My comment about being sarcastic was intended for chuck92103 comment, not you....either way, i wasn't indending to sound mad or anything (although it sounded like it) ...To be honest, I wouldn't blame anyone for not buying this kind of information, since we're already in the middle of 2009. However, the guy is in charge of placing all BMW's cars for the dealer and has very good connection with people at BMW Germany, so I sure trust his sources based on previous occasions.

Also, I just noticed that LeMansM5 & Laurent are confirming that it's likely since that BMW has done it before with other models.

As far as the new iDrive...the dealer have the new 7-series on display and I had a chance to play with the iDrive for a short time. I can tell you that it's totally different system from the previous generation. Everything has been improved and the whole interface looks very attractive from the screen, menus, icons...plus I feel that it's easier and more user friendly, especially with the new layout of buttons around the iDrive controller. I wouldn't mind waiting little longer and have this cool system in the car

NP , I agree if an option is important to someone than waiting for it to be available is good. When I say I wouldn't wait for it only means that option is not that important to me , not implying that there's anything wrong with you waiting for it (hell I waited 5 months to get TT8 when I could have had the 6 but 8 was important to me). I had heard about the new UI but not the buttons.
