E70 X5M Critical engine failure? please help
Hey guys
It’s been really cold here in NY yesterday temps hit 5 F . I went to start my e70 x5m this morning and when I started it up, it didn’t do it’s usual cold start roar and I could hear a slight squeak sounded like it was coming from a bad pulley. I thought it was because of the cold weather so I kept the engine running and lifted the rpm’s to 1500 to I guess in my head break free the frozen pulley. As I did this I got a low oil pressure warning and immediately turned the engine off. As I got out the car I looked down in terror as I see what’s seemed to be all 8qts of oil on the floor beneath the car. I took a look under the car and saw the oil dripping out of the engine somewhere. Does this sound like a bearing/oil pump failure or a blown oil line somewhere ? Very confused and can’t find anyone with a similar problem , any help would be greatly appreciated I’m getting the car towed to an Indy on Monday but I can’t think of what would cause this |

Oil pump is located in the sump and pulls directly from the pan reservoir. Oil pump failure and/or bearing failure will not cause the truck to puke oil. It must be an oil line or filter housing or oil cooler or massive gasket failure to leak oil out.
Likely the low oil pressure error is because their wasn’t enough oil in the engine. You need to get under it and see where the oil is coming from.
