2008 X5 3.0si (49,000) vs 2011 X5 xDrive 35i Premium (98,000)

2008 X5 3.0si (49,000) vs 2011 X5 xDrive 35i Premium (98,000)

Looking at both... at the same price or very close. Both are Space Gray. The 08 is super clean with gray interior and the 11 is also clean with black interior.

Both are similarly equipped.

Is there anything that I should be on the look-out for on either vehicle? Any inherent issues that were/are plaguing either model? Any particular reason to focus on one over the other? Is the 3 year newer model worth giving up double the mileage?

Many thanks!

My 2012 35i has 125,000 miles and runs great! Keep up on the maintenance.. the N55 will have leaks from the oil pan, oil filter housing, and valve cover gasket. So check on those. Their may be some other small issues but those are the big ones. The oil pan gasket is the biggest and most expensive job, having to drop the subframe even the Indy shops charge over a grand to do the job.

Otherwise in 125k miles those are pretty much the only thing I've fixed so far that entailed higher cost to fix.

Oh almost forgot the FRM module died but it was covered under the extended warranty 8 year 125000 miles. Just connected the battery and it blew.

I personally like the improvements they made on the LCI version on the 2011. Engine was better than the first version.
