Is this normal for a 2012 35i? (input appreciated from other 35i owners)

Since picking up my 35i a few months ago, I've noticed that when coming to a complete stop (say, a stop sign), when I go to accelerate there's a very noticeable lag before the x5 starts moving (I'd estimate a 1/2 second?). The lag doesn't change regardless of normal, D/S or manual mode. Perhaps it's transmission related??

Curious to hear from other 35i owners, is this lag normal or should I have cause for concern? I still have a dealer warranty for another 3-400 miles so I'd rather err on the side of having it checked out and repaired on their dime should this be an issue.

Okay so I literally just went out to test if this happens with my 2011 35i and it actually does have a slight hesitation when initially pulling off from a complete stop. I did try normal, D/S and manual mode which all experienced the same affect. Is this normal? I am curious to know myself, this is the first X5 I've owned. I've heard about the transmission for these vehicles having very minimum issues. Most talk, as we already know, is about the front drive shaft u joint which BMW clearly has acknowledged themselves being a continuous common issue. Thus issuing out the recall and unfortunately I didn't pay attention until now if this has happened the entire time I've owned this vehicle. I bought the car used so maybe those who have bought theirs new or with very little miles (e.g. 30K or less) can chime in on this possibly

Yes, it is normal. I had my transmission fluid, pan and filter changed and the mechanic reset the adaptions, it was gone or I didn't notice the lag. Now it is back and I just have to slowly ease into the acceleration otherwise I'd need a neck brace (kidding about the neck brace).

You can try reseting adaptations - not the gas pedal trick, but the gearbox clutches one, that requires diagnostic s/w. I also think -could be mistaken, though,- there's an update to gearbox s/w that (somewhat) cures the issue that BMW installs upon request.

Drive by wire throttle. Your pedal doesn't have a mechanical cable to the throttlebody. Instead, it's a potentiometer that changes electrical resistance as it moves. That resistance value is sent to the ECU to then convert to a signal to the throttlebody to move it's motor to open the throttle plate.

The delay is all in the ECU programming... Which then brings up so many other variables like the transmission learning, throttle tip-in, response, etc...

There is a "hack," box, I think it's called the Sprint Booster? That changes the pedal resistor values to eliminate the lag. Basically plugs inline between the pedal and rest of the harness.

So yeah normal, and annoying. Could be addressed, but at the same time, not really worth it IMO. Just learn to anticipate things sooner.

It is completely normal. You just need to get off the brake and mash the throttle about a half second early to beat that MILF next to you in the RR Sport.

This is actually a problem in the 50i as well. I had a 2012 50i that did this from new. Now I have a 35i and it does pretty much the same thing. It's actually probably a good thing for me because it forces me to be more careful while driving. I always have that .5 second delay in the back of my mind when I'm attempting to pull out into traffic, so more often than not I'll let an oncoming car go by that I probably would pull out in front of in my E39 or E38.

Bringing this back from the dead. I've had my X5 35i for a few months now and coming from a FBO 335XI with Alpina I'm finding the lag in the X5 transmission very annoying.

Does anyone have any info on
1. If there is an update for the 2011 X5 35i transmission software.
2. What the latest version of the transmission software is.
3. How to identify my current transmission software version so I can verify if I have an older software version (I have Carly and MHD, can't get INPA working on win10).

When I called my local BMW shop in Boise, ID I was told they would have to hook it up to the computer, see if there are any codes, what transmission I have and what software version is loaded and only then could they look at the BMW site to determine if there's a newer version & charging me a 1 hour shop minimum to do so.

Any help/ammo/details you guys can give to go back to my local shop would be really helpful.

At one point he said, if there are no codes they can't update it, but if they find codes they can. So I asked, does that mean you know there's an update for this issue? He wouldn't tell me! They want me to pay just to find out if there is one or not...

I've noted this too. Its more pronounced when the engine hasn't fully warmed up.

I've heard the sprint booster got rid of this..... but who knows ... it probably came from the guy trying to sell them lol.......

I've also heard that certain tunes have eliminated it or reduced it.
