I heard the Vorsteiner hood looks nice but there is a lot of work to get it to fit properly. Anybody have any input on the hood? I was interested in doing that one.

I've been considering this hood from aero function as a good alternative. Its a mix between stock hood bump and the vorsteiner. I wouldn't do the gawd awful bumper though....

i spoke to some body shop guys and they said no matter how good a hood is manufactured, there is always issues with fitment. i don't think paint would be a big issue as long as they prep it right.

i was leaning more toward the vorsteiner hood because you can order them with open or closed louvers.

Also keep in mind guys aftermarket hoods require hood pins. Alot of people don't do it, but it's a good idea to do so. Since OEM is built for all different scenarios and well built to drive. Many of these hoods can pop open at any time because of some of the extra gaping and being lightweight. Will it ever pop open...unlikely but if you are doing excess of 90-100 or more its very possible if not put on and spaced properly.
Alot of e9x guys have had fitment issues with voresteiner. Myself included (bumper and diffuser). A lot of man hours went in from my shop to ensure fitment. Now that I am an x5M owner of course I want to mod. Not alot out there and voresteiner seems to be the most likely culprit. |

I'm looking into the newer x6m hoods or maybe one from the active hybrid x6. Both looked nice to me and since its oem thats a plus

You are correct, I know of several VS hoods on X5Ms but they needed to re-do the mould but they decided just to quit offering it. A local guy to me got the last 2 the one was a mess he said his body shop wouldn't even touch it due to all,of the defects and the last one he got was also poor fitment but due to it being the last one available he made it work. I wouldn't be worried about hood pins on an X5 the hoods have double latches unlike most cars with a single latch.
